The META sounds like a sweet bike for your son. With the way you have it spec'ed it should serve him well at the bike park, at least until he decides he 'needs' a full-on DH rig. This may be sooner than you think if you guys are using your seasons pass a lot. So much fun riding with your kids.

If you hit the ground hard enough the force of the impact will cause the helmet to stick to your head and ground which introduces the rotational forces to the brain.

Have you seen any credible data to back up this claim? I haven't. Other than that, I agree with the rest of your comments.

I recently bought a Bell Super-2R with MIPS, but only because it was the same price (on sale) as the non-MIPS version. It's a nice helmet and fits fine, but I am not convinced that the MIPS system makes it any safer. My other helmets seem to slide/rotate on my head about the same amount as the new MIPS helmet does. I doubt it can hurt, but I don't think I would pay an premium for it. I think the 6D helmets are probably better at decoupling rotating/sliding forces from your head.

DT Swiss. Best bang for the buck and very durable. My oldest set is going on 6 years of regular riding. I clean and lube the star ratchet often but have never needed to replace a bearing. If I wanted to go carbon I would give nobl a serious look.

I have gone back to xtr and XT cranks and sure don't notice the small weight penalty. Plenty stiff and it's nice knowing that they will never blow up. Have run turbines in the past with no issues either.

how do they compare in looks to the current models ? I heard its a all new design

The Range I saw looked pretty similar to current models. Don't think it was the production version though.
