GPS Units for Outdoors ?

Anyone using a Garmin Oregon 450? How do you like it?

Have one, decent feature set and nice form factor. Like switch says the touch screen works well enough and the battery life is pretty decent. It won't work with strava if that's something you care about.

NSMB - 2013 - Enduro/Trail Bike Build thread

Here's my stumpjumper evo (and bonus enduro). Same bike as last year, and will very likely be the same bike for the next few years to come.

Claiming just under 29lbs with winter tires. 28 and a bit with lighter summer rubber and no mounts for lights.

removing raceface x-type crank with... issues

The "puller cap" holds the crank bolt in place as you loosen it to push the crank arm off the splines. If you remove the crank bolt and your crank doesn't fall off you'll need to replace the "puller cap".

Specialized Warranty Help for Rear Hub

If it's a Specialized HiLo hub you should be able to fix it with a new freehub assembly. Pretty sure it costs about $40-50 and is made by Novatec.

winter rubber

Looking for some ideas for winter rubber as the wet weather looms. Any new 'stars' out there for the slippery months? Considering going tubeless this year to help with running lower pressures. any ideas?

For my AM bike my plan for this winter is 2.3 Butcher SX front and 2.3 Butcher control rear. Both set up tubeless with stans and gorilla tape.

Hoping to retain a reasonable amount of grip with this combination while rolling faster than the 42a single ply 2.35 minions front and rear I've used with success in the past.

Dropper Post Cable Routing

Good idea Dean. It's taken me a while to get dropper posts routed in an acceptable manner on a few bikes.

Current set up:

Stumpjumper evo (comes with internal routing for a command post or any post that uses a 4mm cable. Had to improvise a bit to route my reverb which has a 5mm cable).

Reverbs come with a nice plastic guide that you can ziptie to the post to hold slack cable in the same manner as Dean's zipties. For the rest of the cable routing I used plastic press on cable guides which are attached to the frame using two sided tape and zipties.

Looks pretty clean and doesn't ever get in the way.

*Might update this post with pictures if I remember.

Getting full travel on a Pitch with RP2 shock?

You could try a high volume air sleeve on your shock.

Park bike for 12 yr old

Norco shore or six from 2008+. Big bend in the top tube should give it good standover and they're tough bikes that will stand up to teenager abuse.

2010 Boxxer team setup or modifications?

I've got some 2010 teams which need some love too. I'm going to try some of the suggestions in this thread on ridemonkey.

NSMB - 2012 Light DH Bike Build Off 7"+

It's not light, and it's not a 2012 but here's my Norco Shore.

Last time I weighed this thing it was 42.5lbs with 2ply tires. Probably a bit lighter now with Butcher SX tires.

Recent upgrades include a suspensionwerx shock rebuild (and shock body swap from a dhx3 to a dhx4) and offset reducers that drop the bb to just below 14" and put the head angle at 64.5 degrees according to my phone.
