what's the insight on that? i've know the trail as skull since what feels like the beginning of time.

Digger Direct: Have ridden the route/ "problem" since near original inception.

The trail was renamed Big Stupid when Digger redid that section of trail, coinciding with the DNV's signage project in 2011. It makes sense to me because this section of trail doesn't actually end at the top of (Lower) Skull. While it was often called Upper Skull by locals, was the trail actually on a map with that name? Asking because I simply can't recall.

It wasn't renamed. Just identified correctly. It has always been the big stupid.

I have had the same issue with XTR's. I had pulled them apart a couple of times to clean them thoroughly and have had them function for a little while. I think that the real problem is that over time(originally purchased in 2012) and use the seals actually swell and become just too big for the cylinder.

I ended up replacing them.

It was at times like this I really missed my old Hopes and having the ability to just replace the seals for a couple of bucks.

I have 3 months on the new Bronson having been on the Blur LTc for the last 5.

The 2016 Bronson is so capable on all fronts that I wouldn't even consider the Nomad unless you think you are going to be more park centric. The perfect North Shore (and more) bike IMHO.

One of the biggest crashes that I have seen in F1 for sure. I think the halo might have only been a problem if there had been a fire…

Too bad that crash ultimately determined the finish order of the race. could have been an interesting finish if Vettel hadn't cocked up near the end…

Safe for what? The large truck load rating it originally was likely rated for or a couple people on mountain bikes? I'm pretty sure it would have been safe for a few hundred pounds :)

If it did come off its foundation, it is pretty likely it would have sunk long before it got anywhere near the slide. However, it would have been more expensive remove or recover at that point.

My other question is: Was the bridge destroyed during removal? Could it not have been removed in such a way that it could have been at least partially reused, certainly with a reduced load rating?

Like others have said, this really sounds like a knee jerk reaction but I would really like to hear Metro's side before going all in on this opinion.

The bridge deck had been replaced relatively recently(within the last 5 yrs+/-). However I think/believe the biggest concern were the piers/foundations, which were the original going way back, had been undermined by the (flowing)water and were no longer structurally stable enough to support the bridge deck.

Years of low tax increases have left West Van Parks with a low budget and growing demands. Ambleside and the Seawalk have the highest usage of any DWV park. Guess where the maintenance budget goes.

Unfortunately for DWV, my tax dollars go to the DNV.

A couple of years ago was sitting at the old "TreeV" road just after the 4th switchback when a Parks truck came barreling down and was making its way to the Lost Lake trail.

"where you headed?" they asked.

"Haven't made up our minds yet" we said.

"Well have a good time so long as it isn't on Park land" was the response.

I guess thats why its still the "wild west" out there at DWV, save for so long as no one gets hurt, its not our problem.

I hike up there a lot too and can't believe that considering how much development has gone on over there the last 20 years at the foot of all those trails and access points that nothing has been done to keep them in check. Almost embarrassing that the Trans Canada Trail happens to pass through the same area and has the least amount of maintenance.

Millstream Trail is closed due to a landslide at McDonald Creek West Branch, not far from the 3rd switchback. DWV is aware of the situation and says that the trail is impassible.

Enough praying for snow! It's too warm. Pray for less rain!

The bridge there has been a hazard for years, hope that the DWV's new found "awareness" finally addresses that issue.
