seems like the easiest solution is simply to cut off Asia from the rest of the world - ban travel, ban goods, just ban everything, otherwise it's going to happen again.

and when the line cook has it, and ends up breathing on everyone's food for 10 days before showing symptoms?

sorry you had to shut down tashi.  i have friends who've had to do the same, it's awful

“Public Health Officials have completed a risk assessment and concluded that the risk to people at the restaurant at the time was low”

Fair point, I’m just exploring options. Besides from what’s been stated so far sneezing and coughing resulting in droplets is what we need to worry about, not simple breathing.

I’m in hospitality and had to close today, staying open any longer just felt wrong. Calling two dozen people to lay them off didn’t feel good either...

Here’s hoping that “ride it out” doesn’t mean the death of our 40-year old family business.

any thoughts on half opening, ie only having half the tables available so you're maintaining social distancing to keep the place open? it's what they're doing in quebec

I am saying that this type of planned trail can get rider going much faster and trying bigger things than they usually would, and speed can f*ck you up!

yeah, I'd much rather crash at low speed on some techy section than go blasting off into the weeds and smoke a tree or auger hard and discombobulate myself in some horrific manner. you know better than I, but the human body does not fair well from trauma due to high speed impacts.

News flash. The Chinese are not a hive mind. They don't actually share uniform opinions about everything.

I don't doubt that. But, the level of info that comes out of China in regards to the general goings on of life over there seems to not exactly be an open river of information.

What if I told you that there were loads of Chinese people that listen to Alex Jones that are convinced the entire western world is a dystopian nightmare and sleep well at night knowing they live in China. Would that blow your mind?

No, not at all which I why I asked about that vid.

Re: Wuhan Coronavirus

My point there was that the CPC is not a very open govt, even by western standards.  I brought it up because you asked me for some examples. Maybe instead of being so hurt over people questioning what happened in your beloved China realize that the discussion can flow in many directions.

This all goes back to my question about the infection rate and you claimed that if we enacted the same measures as China the numbers wouldn’t be too high. I correctly pointed out it may not be as bad considering how they fucked up in the beginning and that let covid get established over there. Our initial reaction to the cases here in BC has been quite different.  Get over yourself and this trip you’re on and  look at the facts for what they are without any bias.

The other problem with travel adjust or lockouts for that matter is getting to the bottom of a long descent and wondering why your suspension felt shitty only to discover that you left the adjusters in the wrong place.

Is it fair to blame a product for user error?

Was referring to the initial suppression, as for other topics the Uighurs come to mind.

You literally have no idea what the central government in China did or didnt do. The fact that they don't have millions dead already and the rate of new cases has slowed down considerably is proof they have a good grip on things.

The biggest difference is they have enough money to completely shut down society for a few months.

Do we?

I know they did some good things like mobilizing resources, but they also suppressed information which seems to be a theme with the CPC

What's to love about being forcibly quarantined? It fucking sucks obviously. Get ready because it's gonna happen to us. And I don't "love" chinese culture. I just understand it more than you do. Remember I still know a lot of people there that I keep in touch with. I have access to more personal on the ground accounts than you do. I saw one video with a headline : "Chinese citizens locked in own apartments cry out in agony and despair"

I watched the video and they were actually shouting encouragement to each other out the window like: go Wuhan! Go China! Keep your head up everyone! We'll beat this! Wuhan will not be defeated!

They came together as a people to do the neccessary thing but that isn't what we want to hear for some reason. This is why it's gonna hit us much harder. If our government told us to all stay at home and started forcing potentially sick people into quarantine we're gonna be like "fuck off you can't tell me what to do..I have tickets to Tool!"

The difference here, in BC at least, is that the government has been very upfront about this from the beginning and they are constantly telling us what to do and what not to do in response to the virus. Compared to many other jurisdictions it seems like we have a better grip on things.
