So I'm not sure if he's available, but I'd like to nominate Ewan Fafard if he is. He's one of the greatest builders in BC if not currently the best. For those who aren't familiar with Ewan, he's the master builder…

While I don't normally speak for other people, I can say with a pretty large degree of confidence that it's unlikely you'll ever see that guy meaningfully involved with another trail project on any trail in North Vancouver.

And as an outsider, the politicking in this forum is infantile and ridiculous and it's really no wonder that it's become a localized mountain biker's version of Reddit.

I believe the 3km rule was applied for that incident:

TBH, I don't have the time to spend a bunch of days on PBR and I can't speak for Ewan.

Knowing the work that the prison crews have done in the past, I'm not sure that going this route would make the trail significantly better than it is now.

PBR was created mostly as a rake and ride and, personally, I wouldn't be horrified if it continued in that manner, unless other people pipe up and want to take it over.

Most of them don't actually ride horribly. Honestly, it could be worse.

I rode up to PBR from the top of Snakes [HTML_REMOVED] Ladders, so I didn't see any part of Goldmine above the cabin.

The top 50-60% of PBR was affected by the logging activity, and all of the reroutes are located in that part of the trail. Basically, any part of the trail that traversed away from the ridge beside the creek has been reconfigured to follow that ridge and the reroutes hook up with the original line where possible. The trail is clear and rideable, but it's pretty different from what was there before. Everything below the rock roll is unchanged.

Note that there are two trees down in the fastest section at the bottom of PBR.

Also note: The bridges on Tsuga are slippery.

I finished Kim Stanley Robinson's Aurora a while back and enjoyed its look at artificial intelligence, space travel // exploration, and humanity in general. Standard sci-fi fare, really, but it was well-written and well-received with lots of cool old school elements (Tau Ceti, Starchild, a self aware ship, etc etc).

I'm currently reading Ernest Cline's Armada, which I'm not all that impressed with, partly because it's a little too wink-wink-nudge-nudge for my liking. To me, it's almost like Cline feels the need to make up for his borrowing // co-opting of past sci-fi works (novels, comics, video games, film, tv, etc) by referencing every single one that he can think of. I liked Ready Player One, but this one is kind of a chore, so approach it with that in mind. It's an easy read though, and almost feels like a YA novel, which is weird because most kids would never get all of the stuff mentioned in passing (whether it's old Atari video games, lines from crappy 80s films, or re-purposing movie origins).

The bike used to be hers, but was sold to a friend, and then stored in her pit area so that problem's solved and there's nothing fishy.

I know, I know, her brother popped for EPO and her dad (allegedly) stole some birds, but I don't understand why people don't believe this explanation from her. I mean, why would somebody surrounded by upstanding folks be a cheater?

I've used both the InReach and a sat phone for backcountry communications and they're pretty different from one another.

The Delorme is cool if you're camping or out in the middle of nowhere and want to touch base with friends to coordinate meet times // points or whatever. Texts and e-mails come through no problem and I had no problems with the device while using it.

The InReach falls short if you need to establish immediate voice contact for emergency extraction. IMO, it's a whole lot easier to make a call on a sat phone than to mess around with your phone and your InReach if you've got a broken limb, blood loss, or some other unfortunate injury.

Also note that both of these devices aren't fail safes and shouldn't be your primary mode of getting out of trouble.
