Get out there and win a bike!

Good shop to deal with. Damian, who co-runs the shop, is a true ambassador for local cycling. From great shop rides and training help to strong after purchase support, these guys are an asset to the community.

The costco garmin 305 is a pretty good deal, a fun toy and may even be useful for training. It is an hr monitor on steroids and EPO.

I bought one of these about 3 months ago after getting severe gps-techno-toy-envy. I also picked up a couple of the cadence monitors to mount to the road and mtb bike. This tool won't make you faster but it sure fun looking at the details on the garmin training centre after the ride. I admit it I am a graph whore now!

Graphing my heart rate against speed and elevation and comparing it to past rides on the same course has given me an idea of cardio progression (or lack thereof). It has allowed me to see avg heart rate and total calories burned on rides to help compare the training merits of each ride…this is useful information that every weekend warrior should have…do you think there is a multi-step self help program I'm ready to admit I have a problem.

A friend of mine is in the race and emailed this out after day 1:

"We have come to several realizations,
1. We are not "downhillers' free riders" or "all mountain assassins" we are middle aged cross country light weights of middling ability.

2. When they say on the start line PA system "If you are running high pressure in your tires, you're in for a long day" you should probably drop your pressure

3. When the "Godfather of Freeride"( Wade Simmons) tells you to "lower your saddle for the down dude" you should probably lower your saddle….

Rode Galby on Sunday. Snowy but very rideable. The higher you are the firmer the trails are, it's muuuddy down low though (aka best avoided.) Props to the dedicated local group who maintain the area.

James does a great job. He went out of his way last year to get a stuck-down shock fixed for me while I waited. Awesome guy, I would recommend him to anyone looking for shock and fork service.:clap:

I have the trailtech HID and lithium battery from Batteryspace.com. I can't help you with you battery light compatibility question but I'd definitely give trailtech a thumbs up for service. After a crash inflicted cable/switch problem they fixed it free of charge(after warranty expired), it took 1 week to get it back and they even threw in a new handlebar mount plus 2 helmet mounts.

I really can't see how you would notice the difference between a 10 and 12 degree flood??

The only downside of the light is that it can be a bit heavy on the XC helmet- it makes the lid move around a bit too much!

Ian, the picture "from the feed zone" is of a friend of mine named Eric, (he is the dude trying not to check out the feed station attendant- his wife and three kids must have been close by.) Thanks for posting these great pics, I have forwarded your link on to him.

A local nsmb board member and avid shore rider "leggatt" will be doing this ride. These guys(and gals) are in for a tough ride this Saturday June 21st. They are riding 400km in one day, starting at 4am in Kelowna with a goal of arriving in Delta at 10pm…that's 18 hours…The purpose is to raise awareness and money for the Canadian Cancer Society. I couldn't do it this year but I want to get in good enough shape to do it next year. We all know people who have been impacted by cancer.
