A Month with the Santa Cruz Heckler E-Bike - April 21, 2020, 2:48 p.m.

I think that the etiquette will be the biggest issue here, not really with old guys like me who are thinking about getting an ebike, I have been riding mtb for 30+ years and know the rules and attempt to be nice to everyone I come across out there, but someone new who get's an ebike because the look fun and are fast...may not know to slow down when passing, smile, wave, make jokes...this is a very social sport and I hope it stays that way.

As for the doing more damage to the trails because you can do more laps, I get that, but am not a fan of that argument, we would have to roll those super fit riders into the same category...does not make sense. Where this extra range can come into play is being able to open up trails further out, spread the user base out a bit more and open up opportunities to explore and recon land that was not viable before.

I am pretty close at pulling the trigger on one of these mopeds so I find it very helpful to see posts like this and people having a civil conversation about a topic that they may not agree with...thanks for this space Cam.

Riding Motorbikes in the Alps: Part 2 - Aug. 12, 2019, 2:09 p.m.

This! I would like to see them get a bit lighter, better batteries and more efficient and quieter drive units. E-bikes are here to stay and in their current form, I think they are great! My hope is that that the MTB versions stay as they are...if the torque gets much higher that's when issues will start happening. Now, for the commuting versions...that's where I can see things getting faster...but that brings it's own issues...

2019 e*thirteen TRS Cranks Reviewed - June 19, 2019, 9:04 a.m.

I am back on Alu now after my SixC's had issues with the pedal insert bonding...but that was after 4 years and I weigh quite a bit more than Vik...but also ride quite a bit less...lol.

Crankbrothers Launches the F15 Stevie Smith Memorial Edition Tool - May 31, 2019, 10 a.m.

WANT!

Shimano Introduces 12spd XT and SLX Groups - May 30, 2019, 2:38 p.m.

Thanks, I hope it comes soon! (CK never seems in a hurry about this stuff though).

Shimano Introduces 12spd XT and SLX Groups - May 30, 2019, 10:38 a.m.

I have been waiting for this, I was going to go with SRAM but the loss of the trigger shifter was not optimal for me. The one thing I do not like is the spline cassette...I have CK hubs and would had to have to step down to a lesser hub just for this...ugh. I may have to go SRAM after all...NX cassette will work with my regular Shimano splined hub I am already using.

Min-Maxed With Magura MT Sport Brakes - May 14, 2019, 10:04 a.m.

I'll check with my local shop, but I don't find the Vic shops carry much Magura stuff...so usually easier to get online.

Min-Maxed With Magura MT Sport Brakes - May 13, 2019, 2:55 p.m.

I am running a MT5 in the front and MT4 on the rear and really love them, even with the stock pads they feel stronger than the Saints they replaced. I do want to replace the pads, any good links to get them at a decent price?

Maribor DH World Cup: Proof the Canadians Are Coming - April 30, 2019, 8:57 a.m.

Me too! Once Finn starts putting it together and getting some confidence he will be all over the podium! Good to see Mark get back up there too, more of that please!

Huck Norris Revisited - April 26, 2019, 3:21 p.m.

I believe they are fully round, no open ends like the Vittoria. I was interested in the Vittoria ones, but I hear after a while they get a little rattle-ey as the zip tie that keeps them together pulls at the foam and it loosens up a bit.

Huck Norris Revisited - April 26, 2019, 9:36 a.m.

I am looking at the Rimpact #sendnoodz, they look like a good mix of HuckNorris and Cushcore...the light weight of huck norris and the more robust design of the cushcore. https://www.rimpactmtb.com/

Introducing the Forbidden Bikes Druid - April 3, 2019, 12:51 p.m.

I am down for this! Longer seat tube, please!

Dear Uncle Dave: What is the best bike for the Apocalypse? - March 13, 2019, 1:32 p.m.

I agree, steel frame, rigid bike, flat pedals so you can hop on with whatever shoes you take off the dead bodies you come across. No dropper, and a 1x drivetrain...maybe XT 10speed...that shit just keeps going. 29er with 32 spoke 3 cross,  straight gauge spokes and CK hubs....some big not so knobby tires built up tubeless...but have spare tubes. And my god...use schrader valves!

You can have fun on this bike...we did back in the 80's...haha...

Dear Uncle Dave: What happened to "ride don't slide"? - Feb. 27, 2019, 1:17 p.m.

Agreed, no issues with Strava or trying to be the fastest even....Just ride the trail like it is. If it's too hard, stop and session it...get better, don't dumb down the trail to fit your lack of skills.

Dear Uncle Dave: What happened to "ride don't slide"? - Feb. 27, 2019, 11:18 a.m.

I definitely notice a big uptick in braiding since the advent of Strava...but your region may differ. We have a bunch of fast folks (Olympians, pro's etc) that live here and the fight for K/QOM is real.
