The mountain biking season in Kamloops is coming to an end which means that the KBRA is holding its second annual Year Ender Bender at the Harper Mountain trails on Saturday October 17, 2009. We[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;re putting away our hammers and shovels and are ready to enjoy a well deserved day of riding and fun. This year[HTML_REMOVED]#8217;s activities include:

Riding! Shuttle runs will be starting from the lower parking lot at 10:00 AM.
Guided tours of the trails [HTML_REMOVED]#8211; new riders are invited to see the variety of trails that Harper has to offer. Besides the hucks and stunts, Harper has some great singletrack that can be enjoyed without a full-on downhill/freeride rig.
BBQ [HTML_REMOVED]#8211; KBRA will be hosting a BBQ in the lower parking lot starting at 3:00 PM. Enjoy a Hot Dog and Drink courtesy of the KBRA, in exchange we would ask for a donation to the Kamloops Food Bank (non-perishable food or cash), a donation box and jar will be available onsite.

We've got good people on it, and containment is looking great. Plus it's actually cooler/raining on it a bit today.

No threat to Sun Peaks in any case, so have a great ride.

I'll echo this comment. Wearing a HRM is the equivalent to having a tach in your car. You can drive without one, but if you are driving close to the redline all the time…

And I'll double echo the comment that they are very useful to ride with all the time.
I use mine to make sure I don't have a cardiac as soon as the trail points upwards a little, (round is a shape, right?) and it keeps me from redlining on the flats when I'm having fun and wanting to rip along for the "wheeeee" factor.

If I behave and stay in the zone then I avoid feeling wiped out after the ride.

Sounds like we like the same trails, so here's my list.

Sun Peaks:
Top Half of mountain =
Gummy Bear (fun blue singletrack)
Mach (not what it sounds like - right beside Gummy Bear)
Sugar (bit of a flat pedal to trailhead but well worth it)

Bottom Half =
Sweet One (best boardwalks on the mtn)
Arm Pump (either Sweet One or Arm Pump to get you to the bottom after Sugar)
Root Dog (short blue run - roots and boardwalks at the bottom of the hill instead of the biker cross under the chair)

Favorite linked combo:

Silver Star:
Superstar and Shazaam till your tendons scream.
Best berms and blue jumps anywhere.

Apparently my own frustrations and emotions took over my own response and the underlying point was lost. So I'll try again:

Robot, I wasn't directing anything towards you or any of the other relevant players in this thread. I didn't quote anyone's post and it was a general statement for all the readers.

This issue needs to be discussed, and yes, the IMBA folks need to be "held accountable" but not roasted and slammed on an open forum for all to read. Hopefully some real world follow up and discussion with the appropriate people has already taken place.

I'm trying to suggest that negative bashing of an organization, a local club, a group of builders (beginners or experts), or anyone's efforts to make trails better is hurting everyone and pointlessly raising tempers and emotions.

If 20 or 30 people have read this thread and then choose to not support IMBA with a membership, or not show up at a club's trail day due to fears it could be lame or teaching bad techniques, then how has this been productive?

Yes, we have those same forms, but we've just been building short ride arounds or re-routing sections of the trail to avoid enviro issues, etc…
