Re: wireless ear buds (use with phone)

Couple of folks at work have various JBL versions & seem to like them.

Not to hijack the thread, but what's out there for over or on-ear versions? I wear an in-ear hearing aid that makes the usual style a no-go.

This is not nearly as big of an issue as it should be IMO. Not sure bringing condo insurance into the public domain is the right solution, but something needs to change.

Re: The Evolution of the Ebike

Posted by: craw

Am I the only one that wants them less powerful? Every ebike I've ridden the sound is super annoying, as if to remind you that the machine is doing all the work, when the assist just kicks in and then you're a passenger. It turns a level 2 fun activity into level 1, which is the kind of person the industry is intent on recruiting.

Propose me an ebike that has half as much power, twice the burn time and a much smaller battery and I'd throw In. Ebikes that seemed happy to be bicycles rather than leaning towards being e-motos would really help with our trail user conflicts.

Isn't that pretty much the concept behind the Specialized Levo SL or whatever it's called? I definitely see them dividing into two categories. Lighter, lower-powered bikes which really are 'pedal assist,' and those more like the current majority of e-peds where anything other than the lowest possible level of assist allows the user to tear around trails with little effort, but appeal to a whole new market segment.

Re: E-Bikes- They work!

Couple in into the Mystic/LOTS two weekends ago. Couple more seen riding up Seventh during the Fromme fondo last weekend. No real gripe with them, but the case of riding up seventh is exactly an example of how the design of current trail networks, human stupidity, and e-bikes can and will combine to create conflict and accidents involving other trail users.

I said this year's ago on here but let's limit the amount of horsepower a new driver can have. No 16 yr old needs a shiny new m4, lambo or heaven forbid a McLaren p1.

Racist!

Holy shit.  Good for them.

Meanwhile the Canadian government is thinking about, maybe, possibly creating  a registry of new build condos so they can later possibly decide if they want to take action against people flipping on assignment sales.

Maxxis has been quietly releasing new tires in 26" for the past few years.

Annoyingly, the Canadian distributor refuses to bring in new models in 26". Notably the Aggressor.

I've been riding and loving the Yeti 5.5 lately. Very capable without much penalty.

I'm sorely tempted but

1) It's eye-wateringly expensive, and...

2) For that money, I want a better way to carry a water bottle out of the muck thrown up by the front wheel.

However, I'm still sorely tempted...

The Decline of Vancouver.

I still think Vancouver's excessive reliance on basement suites and laneway houses is stupid. It basically privatises the supply of affordable housing. You can't sell a suite or a laneway house separately to the main property, so all these policies do is allow existing homeowners to collect money from those who have been shut out of the housing market.

Yes, cities need rental housing, but Vancouver's high rental prices are partly driven by people that are stuck renting because they've been shut out of the market. Tear down large 4 bedroom houses on large lots and build row houses for freehold sale to address the lack of starter family homes.

Donald Trump... Narcissist in Chief!

I greatly enjoy how the press are starting to call him on his bullshit:

Silent rear hub

DT Swiss: easy to service, good supply of parts, light, reliable, convertible to most hub standards. Install on bike. Ride bike.

Virtually any other hub: more points of engagement (meh), silent (meh), harder to service, get parts for and less reliable.

I'm getting boring: I like parts that just work so I can use my limited time for bikin', not wrenching.

I'm guessing by "service" you mean just the freewheel mechanism. Changing the axle bearings out of a rear DT hub is a royal pain in the ass. Whoever designed the system that has a steel ring tightening into an aluminum hub body under load should be forced to work in a shop changing out bearings in their design for a year. Massively overrated in my opinion.

How much do you know about financial independence?

yeah agree on TransferWise, easy to transfer to from my US/CAD Accounts. Direct debit daily max is $9500 though, but super inexpensive.

Clearly, you are more baller than I if you transfer these figures daily!

The Decline of Vancouver.

Ugh. The G[HTML_REMOVED]M article suggests Christy is pitching this as the humane thing to do in light of Donald Trump's actions South of the border. Give me a break. She's been looking for an excuse to do this since it looked like the foreign buyers tax might actually have a slight effect on the market.

I need to stop reading the news in the morning. It only makes me angry at the moment.

I've been using TransferWise lately to transfer money from Canada to the UK. super easy to use and way cheaper than the crappy exchange rates one gets with the bank. Recommended.
