The Decline of Vancouver.

And when you're a young family in West Van you're spending a lot of time in North Van as that's where most of the kids activities are.

The pool in West Van is pretty dang good. I had our little in one of the programs back in the spring. So North Van guy commuting (by bike) over to West Van for kiddlet activities.

rockslide @ twin bridges

This is great news. Seems like a vehicle bridge finally connecting Seymour to Lynn Valley might alleviate some of the congestion on the #1 north of the Second Narrows?

Clarification that the vehicle bridge is crossing Canyon Creek. This connects Riverside to Fishermans and not crossing the Seymour.

Metro has released some info on potential replacement bridges.

Foot bridge at the old Twin Bridges location.

Vehicle bridge at the end of Riverside Dr.

Skiing fromme

I think more people skied the Howe Sound Crest trail in the last month than in the last 10 years combined.

My instagram feed supports this statement.

Snowboarder caught in slide in Whistler.

How about both? education, knowledge, equipment, etc.. are just tools, not guarantees. Many pro guides get caught as well.

Many? Really? Many pro guides are getting swept? I highly highly doubt that.

Have pro guides got caught in slides? Yes. But I think your wording above is pretty disingenuous to the ACMG/IFMG guiding community.

Frustrating to see lots of comments like this on FB.

Hey back country friends like XXXXXXX and XXXXXXX maybe get one of these backpacks? :) Stay safe!!!!

Maybe don't put yourself on a slope that's going to pop. I'd like to see the sales data for airbags after this. I bet theirs a sales spike. Knowledge is more important then the tech of an airbag.

Home made drying system

Buy a small $20 electric hearter and gut the little thing for it's heater and fan.

Find one with individual heat and fan control. Set heat to low and crank the fan.

I've thought of trying to do a little heated closet in the garage with fan to circulate air for wet mtb gear.

2016 BC Property Assessment

The issue discussed in this thread is not about a higher tax bill. It's a threshold passed in which you aren't getting a free ride from the government any further.

Regarding the comment, "Won't anyone think of the grizzled van-westsiders who've been there for thirty years and can't stomach $500 extra year"… I think we should first ask how much they're paying in taxes. If it's $2,000 a year, you might have grounds to argue from.

Use the Googler.

http://vancouver.ca/home-property-development/residential.aspx

$3.16567 for every $1000 of taxable assessed value.

Pretty sure that's just the city portion, there will be school, translink, and other added on top of that.

City of North Van has some good sheets showing their break downs if you click on the pdf's.

shoulda bought a mac?

I'd love to see the Apple version of something like the Acer Predator 21 X

Dual Desktop grade GTX1080s in SLI.
Desktop i7 7820K (for non-Intel people, the K means it has an unlocked multiplier).
21" ultrawide 120hz curved panel.
Full mechanical keyboard with individually lit Cherry MX switches.
64GB of DDR4 RAM.
4 512gb SSD's in RAID 0 including 2 NVME SSDs and a 1TB HDD for mass storage.

Sure, you could buy a few Macbook Pros for 9K, but do they have eye tracking? It's only 20 lbs!

You need a lifted F350 to drag the beast around.

apparently lots of people switching from MAC's to Surface Pro's

I've recently heard stellar things for the little Surface Pro running CAD/CAM/Solidworks like a champ.

Look up Ifixit and do it yourself. Order the part online. It is easy I have done one on my old MacBook.
