IMPORTANT - no season licence sales at races

Hi all, long time since I were in here, busy and all that.

As some of you found out last weekend in Kamloops, Cycling BC is not accepting paper form annual licence applications any more. In an effort to use staff time as much as possible to help members and organizers put on good events, all licence sales are online only. Paper forms were taking a lot of data entry time that they feel can be put to better use - like issuing that licence.

So if you are planning to buy a licence soon, do it now. Sunshine Coaster is this weekend and I would hate to see some disappointed people. Not sure if there is cell phone/net access at the race site, and besides, that's leaving it way late. If you know you're racing this season, buy the licence already.

If you don't have a credit card, call the office to make alternate arrangements.

XC BC Cup Races

Switchbacks, a fair number of people camp out at the race site for the Cow Trail race in Merritt, but quite a few come from Kamloops and Kelowna and are there for the day only. It's a nice spot to camp but there is no running water, so come prepared.

Trek Sues to End Deal With LeMond

Good to see Trek doesn't believe in the witch hunt that is 'doping control'. Or is it just bad for business?

Which race license should I get?

Full season licence for you then. One transaction and you're set for the season. Plus extended medical and dental coverage for any training or competition riding.

Steve Smith is a monster!!

I took the CBC Commissaire course yesterday. You don't need to have anything taped, as long as there's a clear path all the way down. Deviation from that path could result in a dq.

Yea, those couple of guys at the Ranch last year trying to tell the commies that it was legal for them to cut switchbacks. Poor bugger almost got his license stripped.

Not "poor bugger", cheating bugger. There was a very clear difference between the race trail and the open grassy hillside full of witnesses he felt was fair game. He argued at first but smartened up and backed off just in time to save his licence.

BC Cup schedule 2008

Yeah, I saw that little double weekend too, they originally had me scheduled to work both races. In the end I get to go to Pano which is fine, although I like Kamloops too. Looks like an all DH season this year for me, Psychosis and Sun Peaks C-Cup DH as well.

I should mention Sun Peaks DH is a combined Canada Cup/BC Cup.

I posted this a few days ago but I suspect it got buried in the old thread.

I couldn't say. Apex is for sale and there's only a 50-50 chance they'll operate this summer so I would be loath to try anything. Crystal might be interested if they were approached I suppose. I'd be happy to get involved with a valley event and help where I can, timing for instance, but my business is keeping me on the hop so I'm not making a leadership move.

UCI vs. ASO

A pissing contest it may be, but the UCI is right to exert its authority. A divided and fragmented sport loses credibility no matter the rights and wrongs of the issues. The mention of the CART/IRL scenario is exactly what cycling should be avoiding. ASO thinks the Tour IS cycling and their vision of it is the only one. By definition, the UCI has a wider and more dispassionate view of cycling. It certainly has its weaknesses, but cycling is a lot more than a 3 week French stage race. And I'm sure the millions that watch the Tour live don't view ASO as their true representative.

BTW, it's not a BC Cup event (those are 'Olympic' style XCs), but there will be a marathon XC on the Seven Summits circuit in Rossland. It's on Aug 23 and the contact website I have is http://www.revolutioncycles.ca

Ski Poles?

Dunno what you guys are doing with poles apart from crashing on them a lot. I have a pair of old Komperdells that must have a good 15 seasons on them. I only do 25-30 days a year now, but those poles must have over 1000 days of skiing. Very slight bend in one and tons of scratches and nicks, but never broken. Always wear the straps, in the trees or not.

Discstana??

But with Petacchi at Milram there won't be full support for GC. Wouldn't be a great fit for Kloden's Tour hopes.

Cadel needs a different team anyway. Him and Robbie together = no yellow jersey for Cadel.
