Who Owns a Trail?

nobody "owns" a trail…but… habitual builders/maintainers EARN "ownership" through their sweat equity of flagging it,clearing it, continually monitoring it and maintaining it..and putting up with ignorant trail abusers attitudes.

Burke 2013 Conditions

I hit Lower Elevator then cut across and ended out down by the river. Lower Ele. was nice, tacky and clear, but the other line had quite a few blowdowns…….they were for the most part hand-bombable, and tossed to the side. Awesome conditions !

Sweet tool ! it's great that it stands up on end all on it's own…..and do I see a

a few new hits along goc's second half jumpline over the past few weeks…i call them poppers……nothing crazy big and easily hit at medium speed.faster gives you more float time though…enjoy! Watch the crotch drop in the slippery snow……its a superman maker.

GOC as an alternate. I can imagine elevator as a maintenace night-mare. Old skool like that is still fun, but added volume certainly isn't helping!

ya…..the other lines close by definitely pull the traffic away…….always room for improvement/updates though.

the water flow is a constant nuisance…some time has been spent on diverting the big creek to keep it from over flowing down the line. There are multiple spots where the water just springs up from the ground…..overall with the fall line ride that it is, it hasn't really gotten all that worse over the last 5 or so years, steep, tight track-stand corners sketchy roots, gnarly is better no? …….it will be progressing for the better over the next few seasons. Good thing there's lots of other lines to ride there.

The snow has arrived! Yaaaay!

Physical Assault (or worse) Thwarted Today: Woodlot

Making a citizens arrest does not give you an excuse for doing violence.

That's illegal, you could be charged with assault.

Haha! Thats funny……..Hmmmmm…………..who would the judge favor …some dickhead junkie viciously attacking a woman in the woods dragging her by the feet, and stuffing her face into the ground or a clean, law abiding citizen who stepped up to help a victim who was on the road to possibly being murdered…..I'd take an assault charge if it saved someone's life.

Physical Assault (or worse) Thwarted Today: Woodlot

Any calls to the area hospitals to see if the victim has/had shown up? As said earlier, "hindsight is 20/20" don't down yourself for acting how you did, because at that time your/your buddies gut instinct had taken control and were concerned about the victim.

I struggle with the thought or lack of thought about putting the "victim" into a somewhat stranger's vehicle without getting some kind of identification, and am baffled about the police not being called a.s.a.p.

I can see wanting to help the victim first and foremost but, just can't fathom how that same gut instinct wouldn't have propelled your buds to chase the mofo down and beat the f$%k out of him…maybe even drag him by his ballbag down to the parking lot. THEN call 911.

I'm running a set-up (3rd year now) I built from (Larson Electronics)Magnalight…… a 900 lumen LED flood on the bars and a 900 lumen LED spot on my head…they're actually meant for a boat and are completely submersible and a super burly waterproof wiring harness and connectors. The housing is 2" square+/- and has the same slide mount (helmet and bar)as the old NightHawk Systems from a few years back. They self regulate to whatever power source you have …anything from 9 volts up to 48 volts. I run them them off 14.4 volt Lithium ion batterys that give me around 7-8 hours of light before needing a recharge at 1 bar left out of 5. I use the helmet one for camping, hiking, caving etc…

……..oooops…..since this is the Burke Thread………it was super wet on Burke this morning. Spent a few hours clearing drains and buffing up a few spots on that trail……the water has turned a few lines into creek beds.
cheers !

I had an awesome nightride up there last night 10pm'ish. Went up the East side, rode Elevator, into Deliverance, into Lower Elevator, then West and Out To The River. All was clear.even though the east side climb has been "dumbed down" LOL it's still a bit of a grind. trails were awesome, but a bit slick. The heavy rains sure have washed the trails and created some chundery goodness….full moon peeking out from the clouds here and there made the climb a tad eery. but it was great to get out!

Looks like a big excavator got torched.

Must be a random act. Never thought of the road up there as a place to go drink beers, and bring a can of gas though?

Pretty shitty……….there's some wackos up that hill sometimes…….there was a bunch of vandalism done to the construction signs a while back……didn't their sign in board go missing too? Seen some weird shit up there at night at times,in the parking area and up at the clearings under the powelines/towers by Elevator trailhead……… especially late at night…..hopefuly they can figure out/track down whoever is responsible….damn tree huggers.

the DH run I speak of is the road down, pretty gnarly in spots, and a bit lame in others!
