we don't take debit

Come on we are comparing chickens with debit cards now? You might make enough to consider 50 dollars a little cash but I am not in the same boat as you. In all my years of going out for food and beers I have come across two places that didn't take debit and they have both been in the past month.

I would assume that it does have to do with the charges incurred. For a retailer to have a credit/debit machine they have to pay a percentage of the sales to VISA/MC or your bank. Credit cards are a gimme as the majority of our society runs in the red when it comes to finances. If the pub is smaller and slower then it makes perfect 'cents' for them to take the income that an independant cash machine owner will pay them as opposed to paying 4% to the bank to authorize through the machine.

You might make enough to consider 50 dollars a little cash but I am not in the same boat as you.

Think of it from the small pub owners perspective. They have tons of costs in running their establishment. That 4% they make as opposed to having to pay may be the only reason they are there for you to enjoy. That's my thought on it anyway.

Bear Mountain Challenge 2010

It comes out in the email newsletter that you probably send right to your trash bin. :) It also had the stuff to vote for mtb athlete of the year and such. My understanding is that it has a low feedback responses compared to how many people actually receive it. My assupmtion is that very few people actually read it.

I found out about it because my 'much better half' does actually read it.

Why not just go to your own bank on the way to the bar? No service fees using your banks machines.

Bear Mountain Challenge 2010

(btw Arduum shuttles were much better this year (despite some problems) and I managed 5 runs AND had lunch on Saturday - good work Dan!)

As the past organizer of Arduum, I agree, the system that Dan and Karla ran this year was better then anything we tried in the past. They have definitely raised the bar for shuttling at races. We had discussed that system in the past but didn't want to try it figuring more bikes would get damaged, kudos to them, it was amazing.

Bear Mountain Challenge 2010

The course is mint. Ewan and Kaulback have been up fixing berms, relipping the jumps and in true Fraser Valley fashion, the course is being raked top to bottom, as of last night it is almost half done. Nice work guys.

Smacktalk?

I thought I might bring this thread back up as the points went up a couple days ago for the overall thus far.

It appears LeClerc is leading over Franks and Bartlett in the 30+, Martin Newman is proving consistency is important leading the 40+ over Gioia and Beatty.

Elite men: Skogland is the leader over Gorz, JS, Ewan and Adriano. Arduum might tighten this one up even more as Skogland, Ewan and Gorz all have a win on it.

there was a rock.

Dave was taking some pics. and some guy snapped me eating shit into a root, not cool.

The photo will be cool but eating shit probably wasn't. I am wondering if Tanya got one of me going down hard. Her camera was out but I didn't even ask as my world got rocked pretty hard.

On the plus side though, the awesome guy that Mr. Bryson is gave me a new Kali helmet. That's now 1 unsolicited rim (from Bear last year when mine exploded) and an unsolicited helmet that he has given me. I believe the rumours might be true, he is probably one of the nicest guys on the DH circuit. Who does that? Just walks up to people and says, "You look like you might need this." Hands over product, smiles, and walks away.
Thanks Jeff, you rock! Your generosity is astounding.

Greg

I will be. Maybe Friday night too (if the course is open) since D has to be out there anyway.

I think the pro podium will be between Lazer, Gorz, Skogland and Adriano (didn't he get 2nd on a little bike last year?) assuming Morland doesnt turn up. Not sure which of the women are at Fort Bill so hard to call that one.

My money is on Gorz but Kenny Smith is probably wanting revenge so you can't count him out. Pro Women, I figure Rebecca McQueen. Old guys, I don't think Cory got registered so I gotta go with Simon, Eric or Boucher, we'll see. Really old guys, since Bryan won't be there I figure Jeff or Beatty. Old ladies, since Denise is doing timing, I will have to go with Karaleen or Meghan but I just can't count out Krusher or Penny, I suppose it could be any of them. Might have to set up a spy cam on course to decide who I will go with there.

Fluidride Cup #1

This is unconfirmed but Holly would have had the fastest women's time of the day but didn't make her race time (or some controversy that I don't completely know.)

Confirmed from the results sheet

Holly Feniak 3.34.32/DNS
Danice Uyesugi 3.39.08 1

I ask because I will be heading down solo to do some timing for it, I might have a couple extra seats if anyone is wanting to carpool.
