your profile indicated you had recently moved to the lower mainland hence my thought that you had recently moved here. Severed was far smoother in the past than it is now, as were most trails that have seen little or no maintenance in their life, they were not built as chundered chutes, they evolved into them through erosion.
20 years ago there were no beginner trails on the Shore one had to ride out at UBC or Stanley Park.
I do agree with you and do not think all trails should be smooth, fast and flowy but at the same time the general chundered messes that most old trails are in are not sustainable with the increase in riders - TAP is addressing this as well as legitimizing riding on the Shore by getting most landowners to be somewhat supportive of what were previously illegal trails.

Severed Dick has been around for more than 20 years and is far from what it's original state was….once upon a time it was loam and dirt so NO it is not how it was originally intended to be like in it's current state despite what you may think. Many other "gnarly" trails are in similar states and are only gnarly now because of time and continued erosion. Me thinks you have not been riding on the Shore for very long…?

So it's generally not possible to do shuttle laps with lights at this time of year? Once the ski hill opens the road must be open pretty late, no?

Gate (cones) set up at bottom of hill at 8pm now with someone taking plate numbers if you need to head up; will be set up later in evening once there is night skiing. Never had a problem recovering vehicle if you up there before they set up at bottom, not sure how keen they are for shuttlers to head up after 8.

extra health care costs are borne by all for personnel choices ranging from foods we eat to exercise we do to smoking and drinking…this isnt really any different.

The general idea is not to bring attention to ANY trail that is not on a map, forum guidelines say no directions but why draw attention to it at all?? use trailforks as a guide, you may know about it but there are probably many others that dont and whom are now curious and with a little digging could figure things out.

It has never been NS Rescue at the bottom of the mountain when i have been stopped. They have always worked for Mt Seymour and are there at 8pm beginning of season (before night skiing is open), ~10pm mid season and were there at 9pm near the end of the season.

Cyps has people at the bottom as well, 11pm with night skiing open i think.

It is likely seymour mountain, they do it all ski season and are maybe still doing work up there….I have been told it is for safety as well as so they know who has been up the hill in case there is some vandalism that takes place.

Have to pay to play sometimes….I'm ok with pay parking as long as Fromme isn't only place it is being implemented.

According to NS News several parks are having it started in, yearly pass would be $20, seems pretty nominal if one wants to use the lot….
