Rocky Cycle- voicing opinion on service

Which is it?

Ugh, you folk stress me the fuck out. If you're not there to buy something or shoot the shit, why are you there? Usually the "Don't mind me I'm just going to spend 2 hours prowling around your store" people are either casing the place or trying to decide what to buy online (which is obviously a really fucking shitty thing to do).

Wut? If I'm there, its 99% probable that I am there to make a purchase. Definitely not the 'go look then buy online' kind of dude either.

….and com'on man, of course I'm exaggerating a little. I'm not that much of a cee-you-en-tee (well, maybe).

Rocky Cycle- voicing opinion on service

If I go somewhere I go find someone and ask them for help if I need it. Last thing I want is a bunch of sales drones asking me if I need help. Call me what you will, but I love going to a shop where nobody bugs me.

Interbike - Knolly Bikes for 2012 (Big Changes Afoot)

I agree that Taiwan is very advanced in manufacturing… BUT no way in hell they have the best craftsmen and best materials (we don't work on bikes). Cheaper labor I guess, but that seems to be changing more and more. What they do have, is very efficient plants. I should know this, it's what I do for a living and can easily prove it to you if you wish (I don't make bikes btw)

I don't pretend to know the answers, just a guess.

Interbike - Knolly Bikes for 2012 (Big Changes Afoot)

I don't understand why people get so bent out of shape when this topic pops up every few months. Knolly is responding to market demand - not that people are demanding their products be made in Taiwan, but that people want the best product. To get the best product you have to go where the best materials, best craftsmen, and cheapest labour are found. If that overall package were to be found here then no problem, but its not.

Remember when most things non bike related were made in the US? TV's, electronics, etc etc…. now we're in the big change over for high end bicycles. Even in the auto world, lots of high end parts and engines are being made in places like China. Once you see these developing nations become wealthier and their workers demanding higher wages, maybe you'll see these manufacturing jobs come back, but that probably wouldn't happen in our lifetimes.

Sign of the times we live in.

Why would anyone race DH over XC? Drive up than ride your bike by yourself for three to five min. YEEHAAA now that is mt biking

XC racing at a high level takes way more dedication, that's why. Dollars spent vs actual ride time and dh racing is the biggest waste of money in cycling. I'm not one to defend dh racing.

But, at least dh involves a trail that is easily built and can be replicated most places in the world. A 4x course is not something that anyone can go out and build. A dual course is much more easily built and can be used in many more areas, something which is appealing to organizers and governing bodies.

It was good I guess they gave 4x a try, but even back then we were saying that it can't last. Way too specialized.

Tonight, Georgia Murdered Troy Davis

And biased justice is……….?

Unrestrained and with a majority, this is where we could end up with succesive Harper goverments.

uh… parallels to a guy getting questionably offed in the US under a democratic prez, relates to Harper how exactly?

A black man gets unjustly murdered by the state in the southern US. Didn't see it coming.

The whole premise of dh could be as lame if your opinion means anything, which it does.

However, 4x was doomed from the start. They tried to emulate bmx racing on mtb's going downhill. Except, the one thing they didn't look at was it was that once someone got the lead, that was pretty much the end of the race. It was just inherent in the course designs. Those problems don't happen in dual slalom, which would have made way more sense to keep around. Dual wasn't really a bmx'er-turned-mtb'er discipline, where anyone with good corner skills could do well.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to race 4x over bmx?

This was discussed to death a decade ago, I don't really want to rehash it again.

winter xc/am tire options

High Roller 2 - soft/intermediate conditions (especially where you need good braking traction, think steep and loamy)
Minion front - intermediate/hard
Minion rear 2 - soft/intermediate

general guidelines.

I'm surprised it lasted this long. Its gotta be the lamest event in mountain bike racing.

What are you doing to control your carbon footprint?

My neighbour is always going off on reducing her impact on mother earth and all that. Meanwhile her house is frosty in the summer, molten in the winter, fireplace pilot light burns all year long, uses pesticides on her lawn so it looks perfect, buys so much stuff without a thought, throws out more food than we consume. Then I'm the one who gets lectured on carbon footprints.

Ahh…. I love small town minds.
