The Best Of Lubes vs The Rest Of Lubes - Feb. 6, 2020, 9:02 a.m.

I been using Squirt for a couple seasons, it seems to work well and be pretty clean, best not toleave it in the shed to freeze over the winter or it will thicken up but if that happens you can just thin it out with some water

Ask Uncle Dave: Talking Tires with Maxxis - Aug. 28, 2019, 11:16 a.m.

back in the mid 80's mtn bikes came with shitty 1.5 tires, I think it was cuz there was less duty on bikes made in Taiwan with narrow tires so when I bought the bike the store swapped them right away and  gave me credit on a better set of tires ... might be a better way to spec a bike

Yeti SB150 'Test Platform' Custom Build - May 26, 2019, 9:02 a.m.

the  Fox  seat post on my 5.5 was creaky from day 1, I tried lube but it still always creaked, the key was to clean off all the lube and use carbon paste

Wrapping your Ride for Posterity (and resale!) - May 11, 2019, 12:04 p.m.

I did my 5.5 Yeti with a roll of 4" 3M from Lordco, used water in the spray bottle with some soap and 25% alcohol, I popped air bubbles with a pin and squeezed out the air. I  wrapped the top of the toptube the bottom of the down tube in the places that are most likely to get hit, wrapping the stays is where some of the curves down under the swingarm don't look great but you don't really look at that. All in all for 22$ it worked pretty good and looks fine, I think a hairdryer or heat gun  might have helped make the more complex curves ...definatly a thumbs up

Uncle Dave: Does it matter where my bike is built? - Oct. 19, 2017, 3:50 p.m.

Back in the day I met a certain local character at a demo so i asked buddy where he was making his bikes and it was Taiwan so why not Canada?

He told me Taiwan is where its at cuz the best welders are there the best factories are there, he can hop on a bike and ride up the street a few KM to find components or tubing factories or anything he needs ... its all right there

and the beach was at the other end of the street

Pinion C-Line Gearbox - Sept. 26, 2017, 2:07 p.m.

the guy who told me this^^ was a bike tourer who had done 8000km in AK & northern BC  he was on a bike with a der and his partner was on a Roloff ... said you tell coasting down hills

Pinion C-Line Gearbox - Sept. 25, 2017, 7:17 a.m.

looks great but I wonder what compromises in chainstay length/placement there would be in the BB area that were eliminated by going with 1x ?  Also someone mentioned drag going down hill, I've been told a Roloff hub will have noticable drag coasting downhill compared to a traditional der setup?

Marin and Polygon's Naild R3ACT Suspension System - Aug. 7, 2017, 3:26 p.m.

yeah I looked at the Switch infinity path of movement on line and then the R3ACT thinking i had the answer but while it is a moving pivot I'm thinking so do the other VPP  ... another thing I don't understand along with religion

yeah I read about the water bottle thing all the time and I think its just one guy making many posts

Marin and Polygon's Naild R3ACT Suspension System - Aug. 7, 2017, 11:48 a.m.

It looks to me like a single pivot with a main pivot that moves which reminds me of the Yeti Switch Infinity system SO its an obvious comparison ?

Lake MX 332 - Shoes For Wide Feet - Aug. 2, 2017, 9:46 a.m.

are the lakes uniformly wide everywhere ? I need a wide forefoot but a narrow heel & instep which has been up till now specialized shoes

Race Face Aeffect Cranks: Boxing Above Their Weight - July 15, 2017, 6:05 p.m.

I should say I was holding the bike up by the pedal when i gave it a tap with the hammer and it came easy but a  self extracting kit sounds like a good idea so where do you get them ?

Just like derailleurs and derailleur hangers there is no way to quantify how hard you hit something before it broke ... anecdotal

Race Face Aeffect Cranks: Boxing Above Their Weight - July 15, 2017, 9:36 a.m.

Yeti put that crank on their cheapest (a relative term) 5.5 sb and I like them, I went to a 28T ring so I had to pull the crank, my old crank puller was broken so I put an 11mm socket in the hole gave it a tap with the hammer and  bob's yer uncle
