Anybody know when I can sign up to abuse myself physically and psychically this year?
Don't forget about the Atomic Superprestige CX race at Mahon this Sunday.
Registration is open
Wow, that was longer/more technical/more fun than I had thought it would be. I burned too many matches on the first half, and had little left on the second half of the course. Having my rear suspension fully run out of air before even starting the climbing on Happy Trail/Big Nimby didn't help either.
Haven't made the final decision yet, but I'm pretty sure I have some unfinished business that will need to be resolved on the course next year.
Is anyone else absolutely covered in mosquito bites, or am I the only slow guy who got eaten alive?
Nope. They had a good feed on me. Probably why I DNF'd. Excessive blood loss:lol:
Sven is the adult Race Director and cohosts BC's oldest cx event w/WestCoastRacing, but the Vanier kids race was an all Steed/Cressmen affair and was indeed, well received. Not trying to be picky here, but rather making sure their hard work [HTML_REMOVED] generosity goes noticed.
Glad to hear so many mtb'ers are discovering cross. I highly recommend not looking at your HR during a cx race as no good has ever come from that.
Both Local Ride [HTML_REMOVED] Atomic crews have done terrific jobs in race organizing the past 2 weekends. Reg table's were tight, courses were dialed and all the racers I talked to were happy with the experience. While Mahon is closeby and fun, I'd be stoked to see Atomic re-activate their Aldergrove venue as it had a proper runup, fun woody mach-chicken section and tricky descent - all rare elements in the current series.
The idea of having some day-of, some Karelo and some CCN registration seems unnecessary. Would be nice to have one-stop shop in 2013 to reg. I know SquashBC handles it on behalf of event organizers, so don't see why CBC hasn't done the same. CotR has it consolodated as well across all series races. Not sure why the lower mainland race reg [HTML_REMOVED] calender updates need be such a mashup. If lower mainland series goes under non-CBC umbrella (a la CotR) in 2013, I'd be stoked.
Thanks for the compliments on the Mahon race and Aldergrove Lake. I'm hoping to get that race going again. We've got a lot of people interested in organizing races for next year. With all the nonsense happening at CBC I guarantee that there will be a calendar up early this year and more races. Look out for a race in Squamish, perhaps one in Tsawassen and hopefully Aldergrove.
My goal is to provide some form of consistency to the series next year. Whether its the website, results, registration, timing, quality of event or sponsorship to grow the sport we need to provide an outstanding product to the racers. In return we need the racers to be our advertising and get their friends, partners and kids out racing as well.
Surprised there's no chit chat in here about the race today out in Abby … I'll get 'er started. Was a first year event by a new promoter/organizer and it showed. Regi was disorganized (long lines), no callups, races didn't run on schedule and ran too long (masters 1/2 went for 60 min instead of 45 min), and the course was crap IMO. To top it all off, it was $35 when AA two weeks ago was $25. Not sure how this made it into the BC Cup series with a new promoter but I won't be going back next year if it's the same course/organizer. Hate that this is how I came away from this event … went out there to support the sport locally and this race, but it clearly wasn't worth it.
Hopefully others who raced had a better experience … not sure though cause I heard quite a bit of grumbling. Looking forward to the two city races in 2 wks .. always a great event for those two!
like onegear said it was a bc cup race because cycling bc put it on. kind of a kick in the teeth and balls for me when 3 years ago i had a bc cup race, then was told that my race didn
tmeet the standards` and was removed from the schedule. this is why we will almost certainly be doing our own thing next year.
The cross coalition is a race promoter like west coast racing or EV, associated with mighty riders. I think that Hooli wanted to make a go-to compilation site for all of the races that are in the local area.
true…but we are hoping next year to have our own series, perhaps relieving cbc of some responsibility and resources and allowing them to focus more on cycling growth and development in bc
