I have only seen one review for this bike previously, and in that review it was mentioned that in hardest gear the chain would rub on the provided chainstay protection.

Did you find that to be the case on your bike?  Might be they adjusted that height.

I do not feel like this bike was well thought out enough for the price, but I'm also riding a 2017 Aluminium 27.5-inch bike so maybe that's how I feel about most bikes these days

That was not the new Effigear Mimic, but rather Effigear's old design. The Mimic is their design that matches to Pinion's mounts, while still being trigger shift.

Not much is out about the Mimic, but I do hope it is better. It has more POE than Pinion, and a similar weight. However, they claim you can shift under load which has me suspicious. I do hope it succeeds though.  Would love to see more gearboxes out there

Watching this bike come together has been amazing, and to put it lightly: I'm obsessed. I love everything about this bike.

Look at those cable routing ports, they're tiny works of art.

The mentality of making a bike that "just works" is so appealing to me. I would love to be able to just get on my bike and ride it, regardless of weather and without doing maintenance as soon as I get back.

I think it makes sense to only offer with 32-tooth chainring... They probably want to ensure a more uniform user experience w.r.t. the pedal feel and pedalling performance.

It's difficult to ensure people don't negatively modify your product, then tell all their friends.  Restricting their options from the factory helps keep user reviews positive.

Or I'm wearing too much tinfoil in my hats.

That Trek Stashe is a very fun bike, very... (buzzword incoming)... versatile.  But it's 29+, and I still see 29+ as viable.

27.5+ may have come and faded, but it did give us one of my favourite bike ads from Rocky Mountain with "Dumbing Down the Shore"
