Re: rossland/trail/castlegar - the kootenays - for living

Posted by: Endur-Bro

I'm getting over the endless traffic jams/commutes to and from almost everywhere.

Lol I loved crew changes in Port Hardy. 3 hour drive and I'd have to pass maybe 3 cars along the way. One time I had nobody in front of me as soon as I left CR till the 4 way stop in Hardy that was a good run.

Trail kinda reminded me of an old timey East German town in the ore mountain regions without the good food but all of the pollution. I kinda liked it in that masochistic I will probably get cancer from the smelter kinda vibe.

Lol worked for me, I bought my place with 7500 RRSPs that my company contributed to me and 7500 first time home buyers program ( zero net cost to me ) and now it looks like I'll be up 200 to 250k $$ when I sell.. pretty good return on 0 dollars and ~5 years time

Re: COVID-19

At my work we covid test before we get on ship then again after 5 days and then again after 11 days, also doing daily temp readings and vaccines are mandatory now.

I think we're doing a pretty good job, I can only think of one positive case in our crew since the start and that was at the very beginning of a dry dock and he got sent off ship in time before anyone else could get it.

That said I'm realllly tired of the whole thing and just want it to go away. A few of my friends are finally getting vaxxed but they still somehow think it's just a scam and blah blah blah. Like fuck man it's not hard just get the jab and be fuckin g done with it.

Re: Are you a good person/How to argue

Yeah.. I damn near doubled my money in 5 years buying a place. I'm looking at selling and moving even further north island to a nicer house for the same money, a realllly nice house for more money. Or a shittier house for less money and less mortgage. Not sure what my plays gunna be yet haha.

Re: Canada Syndrome?

It seems to me like it's a global real estate bubble, which has no spilled over in to rent price increases as well, but like everyone else is saying there's massive fuckery afoot here when shitty houses in Port Alice and winter harbour are selling for 4-500k. If it does imploded we might as well just fucking reset everyone's debt to zero and start fresh. I also think we need to bring our the guillotine for these rich fucks and remove that greedy brain disorder from the gene pool all together

Re: Old growth logging

Yup,seen all the cedars turning brown from the inside out due to the heat dome? Pretty much every cedar on the island is dying.

Re: Old growth logging

That's the great irony, the logging towns are going to be just as fucked in 10 years when they're out of o/g to log, only then they can't even bank on tourism cause absolutely no one is going to come see the stumps in the cut block boardwalk through the micro desert clear cut.

Just leave em standing fuck, the biological diversity in an old growth forest compared to second growth is orders of magnitude greater than the price they can get for trees.  Uggh.

Re: Enough politics and bickering already..

Didn't get a close look at them but saw it was a big clean up job. Basically test everything down and ship it back south.. we saw the sites from far and all looked functional. Can definitely see what you friend was talking about.

Some real zingers from the guy in the robe!

Thompson acknowledged that allowing the injunction to expire could cause serious harm to the company's interests and to the rule of law.

"On the other hand, methods of enforcement of the court's order have led to serious and substantial infringement of civil liberties, including impairment of the freedom of the press to a marked degree," he said.

"And, enforcement has been carried out by police officers rendered anonymous to the protesters, many of those police officers wearing 'thin blue line' badges. All of this has been done in the name of enforcing this court's order."

Re: Enough politics and bickering already..

Apparently an old HBC ship. Don't have much more info than that, it was close to where they found the Terror from the Franklin expedition.

Saw a lot of the DEW line sites they were cool.
