WBP Expanding in 2013?

My sources are telling me that almost the whole Fitz zone is already melted out, and what isn't melted out has been dug out, with the exception of Angry P. So there is a possibility of the WHOLE lower zone being open. The full trail crew starts this week so we shall see. Definitely looks like more trails will be openable than the last two years.

I pedalled up and rode HOD from the water tower yesterday as part of my valley XC loop. Stoked

It's not usually a question of "saving it for later" it's usually about making sure that the trail can handle 1000's of bikes in a day and not get smashed. Some times a trail like Dirt Merchant can look like its ready, and be able to withstand 10 or 20 bikes without showing any problems, but turn into a total mud pie shit pile once the hordes are unleashed. This happens when only the top couple centimetres was dry, and the water was lurking just under the surface. Over the years the crew has learned that waiting that extra day or two to make sure it's truly dry, hard and ready can avoid a lot of time consuming and expensive repairs.

schleyer....wtf?!

When Schleyer was first built, it wasn't "tech" or "gnar". It was smooth and flowy with jumps and drops. Since then it's been pounded and eroded by countless thousands of bikes into it's current form

When the trail crew takes the time to close and rebuild something, they're trying to make it so they don't have to go back again for a couple years. They know that it will get thousands and thousands of riders, so they don't just add a few buckets of dirt or take out a few roots. They know that they might as well spend a lot of time and move a lot of dirt and fix a lot of things. So now it's back to smooth and flowy again.

As mentioned before, don't worry, it will get brutalized back to rooty and rocky soon enough. For now, enjoy it the way it is.

Creekside for the summer

There isn't an "official" trail to the Creek from the mountain, but you can get there. Have a look at a winter trail map or a topo map and you'll figure it out

Bike Park Camps

Another vote for C4 here. I haven't rode with them, but have friends that have.

If you want to say that you rode with some pro or other, but not get a ton of proper coaching, then go for some of the other camps.

For real coaching that will help you actually get faster, C4 is what you're looking for.

Creekside for the summer

I pedalled my DH bike back and forth from Bayshores the last couple of years, it's about 15 minutes if you're chilling, no big deal.

Personally I love living in the Creek. If you set your day up right, you can ride
your last lap of the day straight to Creekside.

The area behind the gas station is a bit of a slum, but if the price is right, its not nearly as out of hand as it can be in the winter.

DH1 - Maribor Announced - Second Interview Added

Good article.

A bit of an intro to what the background story is would be helpful though. I'm sort of familiar with this story, but I still felt like I was dropped in to the middle oft the conversation. I was 1/3 of the way through the article going "is DH1 a website? How is it related to Freecaster?" before I figured out DH1 was going to be a separate race series. Maybe hardcore race fans knew what this was about from the start, but I was confused.

Regardless, I think its a great idea, especially if the prize money goes up. These are world class athletes taking big risks. Let's get em payed!

Also, I'll watch whatever Rob Warner does. That guy rules. Let's get the Canadian Open at Crankworx in this series, get rid of Brad Ewan and have Rob do the commentary.

Alex Pro resigns from Team Young Guns

I've known Alex and his family for over 10 years. I can say without reservation that what happened in Vancouver does not reflect the kind of person Alex really is.
I don't excuse what happened, and Alex is going to have to pay the price for it, but everyone needs to know that this is a great guy with a great future who made one big mistake.

I support you Alex. Stay strong bro. Take this on the chin like a man, then get up and keep going.

You Like This Whistler Premiere!

I'm not complaining about the beer, but why would you have a "premiere" over a month after everyone has already seen the whole movie. Am I missing something?
