BeggarsWouldRide - Oct. 14, 2021, 2:54 p.m.

Mike!!!! Thanks for moving from my former favorite rag (loved grimmy handshake), to my new favorite...NSMB. Can't wait to read what you and the crew get into...

XTR vs. Deore - Can you tell the Difference? - Oct. 6, 2021, 3:43 a.m.

This is where Shimano always seems to win... SRAM falls off considerably as you move down price wise, at least IMO. I love the shifter feel of SRAM, but will not pay for top level...I am eager to see what SRAM will do to answer this group though...

Showers Pass Little Crossover Kids' Jacket - Oct. 5, 2021, 3:31 a.m.

Great review Andrew! Trying to bookmark all of these as your grom is slightly older than mine!

For the end of year you guys should do a list (dear Santa, best of..) for the Clairebarian as well! Us fellow bike dads could find that helpful and entertaining!

AXS Eagle Economics - Sept. 24, 2021, 3:23 a.m.

The mental picture of dodging AXS batteries on a long rough descent had me chuckling over my coffee...I agree about the complaints about the sport...it CAN be expensive (like anything)...but doesn't have to be. I am working on helping a few people get into the sport, and helping them keep a tight budget has been eye opening. It is a really rad time to ride (stock issues aside). As long as expectations are kept in check, and min-maxing is observed...biking can be a whole lot more accessible than it was, say, 15-20yrs ago.

Have New Standards Made Bikes Better? - Aug. 25, 2021, 3:34 a.m.

I was also kinda put off by the attitude, it's not that I hate new standards, just that I don't like the unnecessary swaps because "sales". I don't have the latest and greatest (135 rear hub *gasp*), but am hardly outdated. But according to his way of thinking, it's a wonder i can even ride!

If I were to build a bike just for me, it'd have updated geometry and construction, but probably some old standards. I prefer 27.5, and would rather the narrow 142, if only for the placebo of not smashing into every rock. Threaded bb, because tools. 31.8 bars, because they are better. Outdated seat tube for cross compatibility. It would shred like anything else modern, but work better for my garage of spare parts etc than anything else out there.

Great piece Dave!

2022 Canyon Lux Trail - Aug. 20, 2021, 3:33 a.m.

I agree, I run a 30t on a 9spd and I'm not very fit, but I have no issues (well maybe super steep climbs). Most people I ride with are always amazed I can even climb on the thing, it's kinda strange how people's perceptions have changed. It's almost as if you *have* to run a 50t cassette now; I mean I get it if you want to xc race and run a bigger gear, but for people like me who are just finding ride time between jobs and #dad-life a smaller ring is a no brainer.

That chainline is atrocious! I love that you include that, valuable info for buyers....my pic is for #3; I really like night/dusk bike shots.

The SR Suntour Edge Rear Shock - Aug. 5, 2021, 5:08 p.m.

Thanks! If fatherhood allows I probably will, I want a FS bike...but haven't found anything I like, so figured, eh...why not build it? I'll put it on the forum if I do.

The SR Suntour Edge Rear Shock - Aug. 5, 2021, 1:23 p.m.

It's only in my headspace right now, but linkage driven single pivot, possibly out of carbon ( I was inspired by vlads easy composites bike last year, thrilled he got a job at WAO!) I have it roughed out idea wise, just figuring out the best way to make it happen (if at all). If it materializes it will be a shortish travel 27.5 bike, since they don't exist.

The SR Suntour Edge Rear Shock - Aug. 5, 2021, 3:33 a.m.

This is awesome, suntour is so underrated...now if I can just finish designing my homebrew FS bike....

BikeYoke Sagma Suspension Saddle - July 22, 2021, 7:39 a.m.

I think I heard that from an interview with the founder of wtb, he started with a volt shell then moved to the Koda shape of today...don't quote me though! I'll have to find a Koda and send a comparison...I have narrowish sit bones so I love the volt, been on it for 3 bikes now!

BikeYoke Sagma Suspension Saddle - July 22, 2021, 3:18 a.m.

Thanks for this! I am a WTB fan (volt currently) so this looks interesting...I need to try the Koda tho, I think it is based off of the volt if I remember correctly....

5 Gifts For Your Bicycle Mechanic That Aren't Beer - July 6, 2021, 2:44 a.m.

Hey Andrew, the community here is very small so I PM'd you on the off chance someone doesn't want it aired out here.

5 Gifts For Your Bicycle Mechanic That Aren't Beer - July 5, 2021, 5:09 a.m.

I agree with this, I worked in a dry shop, so it was understood to not bring beer, I was never good enough to get a gift anyway though, lol...the shop I worked in, however, were full of coffee snobs, and man do I love some good coffee! The owner would regularly get some, the doughnuts would have went great with whatever he had brewing in the back!

Great series of articles Andrew!
