Re: ebikes on the Shore

It's a fact. I had one guy blast past our group of 4 twice on Mtn Hghwy (he did Bobsled before heading up to Expresso). Both times without warning and full steam ahead....no acknowledgement at all. The second time I asked him for some warning. He stopped, slowed down and rode with us for a bit...turns out I know him. He apologised and said he just got the bike and was having a a blast....this is a fellow with many years of Shore experience. I was quite quite surprised.

Most everyone I know and have spoken to on the trails have been riding for a long time.

I'm more pissed when I'm slogging up a climb and someone flies past me and I see they aren't on an e-bike :)

Haha if I had a dollar for every time I was passed climbing and thought "wtf he's fast...oh well he must be on an e-... jeezus h!"

I saw you were considering carbon...wouldn't bother.

I was initially drawn to carbon because, coming from sailing, if it ain't carbon it's worthless

Definitely not the case for mtb.

Re: How low is the snow?

Leppard was basically clear a few days ago. Last bits of snow/slush but all clear past bathtub. Was wondering about 7th but thinking it's still pretty sketchy.

Re: The Legal Weed Thread.

I tried the legal dispensary cannabis (I need high CBD stuff cause I'm a lightweight and high THC triggers anxiety) and could not believe the price and poor quality. Since then I've either grown my own 1:1 CBD:THC or purchased from Gaias Garden Medicinal - a small organic MOM farm near Kamloops. Awesome stuff and several good high CBD options.

I vape flower only with Zeus vaporiser. It's great for me and helps me relax without getting really stoned (or wanting booze for that matter -  although coupled with a Four Winds Featherweight is a nice chill place).

Totally agree. Those oils/liquids scare me.

Re: Physiotherapists

I've had a really good experience with Shauna Franke at myodetox North Van. Just prepare yourself for some dry needling...

Re: Where do I start?

Yes new bikes are in major backlog at the moment. Assuming someone else mentioned it but keep your eyes out on Pinkbike and ask the Endless folks when you go for your lessons (they are AWESOME btw and I wish I had taken lessons sooner).

I saw you were considering carbon...wouldn't bother.

I started mtb at 40 on a Trek Fuel EX8 for about $3K. Was a great bike and I rode the shit out of it for 5 years before I got my SC Hightower in late 2019. Regardless, just get on a decent bike. I would focus on figuring out your personal riding style before dropping a ton of coin. The lack of availability will help you to wait a bit too.

Have fun! The learning curve (including trail map reading) was steep for me but I also trail run so my cardio increased pretty fast with both.

Re: returning to gym/exercise after a long layoff

There's also BCMC once you're up for it. I swear I was in the best shape when I was doing BCMC at least weekly.  I usually go up and down...which might be a bit much/dodgy at the moment. You can also run down mtn hwy and back down executioner and across BP. So many options!

Re: How low is the snow?

Rode Fromme a few days ago. Leppard was almost all snow/slush but lower half had a clear path in the middle of the trail. All clear starting at Kirkford.

Night riding lights!

Winter is coming...

I'm hoping to get in post-work rides on occasion so looking for light suggestions. I read Andrew's Aug article but none of those can be sourced in Canada and i've already got a bunch of stuff stuck in the USA because of the USPS debaucle (i'm told potentially 3 months!).

So looking for suggestions of good light combos (bars and helmet), that would last at least me a good 2h, planning on rides of trails i'm familiar with, and hoping to not spend more than $300-$350.

I've heard of magicshine and niterider...

TIA!
