I would lean towards calling it snake oil, but that being said, he seems a little more open and honest than most snake oil salesmen.

Maybe we should all pitch in $5 and get someone on the board into the experiment? See how they feel. Anyone up for being a guinea pig?

I think an insurance program is a great idea. Think of your car insurance - don't have an accident for a long time - discount, have an imobilizer- discount, take a safe driving course- discount. So for bc - have insurance of # years with out a claim get a discount. take an Avi course - discount, purchase certain gear - discount. Don't have the insurance pay through the nose.

I have always been of the view that until we start charging smokers for cancer treatments, overeaters for insulin, etc. we should not be charging for rescues.

Cigarrettes are taxed at a ridiculous rate and taxes are used to fund our health care system. I'm wondering what the difference between the taxes collected on cigarettes and the cost of smoking to the healthcare system is? I do think smoking is idiotic, just pointing out that we do charge smokers something.

My point of view on search and rescue is that there is a very distinct difference between someone ducking a whole bunch of warning signs to go somewhere when they are completely unprepared and someone who is prepared for travel with equipment AND knowledge. Having to get heli’d out because a giant rain storm wiped out the road is very different than what this idiot did.

I think it also fair that there be some cost associated with rescuing people, obviously putting the entire cost on the person may be unreasonable, but a charge of $2000-$10000 for rescues depending on effort required would be a good way to get people thinking. Personally if you feel that would potentially result in your family not calling search and rescue, then I feel sad for you that your family does not value your life. I would also be fine if those costs were passed on to all search and rescues (idiots vs incidents).

If I’m not mistaken in many parts of Europe you are responsible for your rescue and people still adventure in the mountains and still get in trouble and still call for help. There’s really a lot of things in Europe that I appreciate over Canada.

If you are willing/able to drive a little: Invermere, Golden, and Fernie are all about 2-3 hours away and add a huge amount of riding options.

Having spent some time riding in the states. It seems like the large majority of people are on 29ers, riding trails that have very little technical challenge. Yes I know that statement is a bit broad, but a large amount of the riding is that way. So for me, the MBA article is not surprising and it also doesn't surprise me that they have such a large following.

Beyond that, I agree 100% with the below statement:

"flow" is really about smooth transitions or progression between trail sections. what's happening on those sections is really irrelevant - it's all about how they're linked up.

Having a skinny at the end of a high speed straight section is a great way to destroy flow. Having that same skinny after another lower speed, likely technical section may work as the person just rolls into it without having to slam on the binders.

If I'm not mistaken, he's actually riding moto trails, hence the name.

Went form a BF goodrich allterrain (Winter rated with the mountain and snow flake) to the NokianHakkapeliitta R (a true winter specific tire).

I was beyond shocked at the difference. The all terrains were fine, but the improvement in grip on snow and ice was fantastic.

I highly recommend going with some real winter tires if you spend a decent amount of time drive in poor conditions.

The kid has great style. I love his manuals and nose taps as he rips the trails.

My experence: Myself and a couple dozen friends have Reverbs, I think only one has been sent back with Issues, otherwise just some standard maintenance and everyone is happy with them. One friend had a KS seat post, got tired of how finnicky it was and went with a Reverb.
