Thanks Norman. This is my current understanding of the situation: If I hook my Ipod to my friends computer to get my music off of it and then hook my ipod up to my own computer that doesn't have that music then the new music will get deleted. Is that how it is?

You can turn that off when you hook up your ipod to the computer.

It's somewhere in the Ipod options, turn off the "automatically update playlists" feature.
