Interesting. what chain ring bolts I was using on my single ring set up before did not fit in the 30 tooth. but the bolts I found which I am pretty sure came out of a granny ring worked. when I asked NSB about this I was told the bolt size for the 30 tooth is M8 x 0.75 Standard granny bolts length. 10mm long?.

and correct on the X Sync In briefly talking to the guys at Chromag and NSB who will be making the X Sync rings for Chromag, the tooth profile is quite a bit more refined.

a couple things. first; it is the diameter or width which are smaller on the standard granny ring bolts, not so much the length. I think that got lost when Morgan cleaned up one of my many cluttered paragraphs, and I obviously did not do a great job of explaining it.

Temple, I dont know if you are familiar with type two derailleurs, but they have forward stop on the pulley arm. instead of having it bottomed out, I left a pair of links worth of slack. which might be closer or a proper set up on a single ring set up compared to leaving the same amount of slack on a triple ring with a traditional derailleur.

I friend of mine has a theory along the lines of every 5 years you should get racer fit. then you can taper for four years 😉

Depends on the ride what I carry, big epic out in the boondocks gets a bigger more extensive tool kit. Backyard rides on Fromme get a minimal tool kit.

maintain your bike at home, not in the woods. plus my back is fucked from too many years of big packs on big rides, and treeplanting. anything close to home and under a few hours is a couple tools in the pocket.

i am right there with you. while sometimes his story's had a bit of humour to them generally i feel they pandered to a baby boomers ideal little slice of canadiana. stuart though seemed like a perfectly nice human and cancer is a shitty way to go.

soooo, you are offering little bit of marketing for the cost of joining and not much more? I dont see any advantages over just starting my own "guiding" business. insurance can be expensive and tenure and permitting have significant financial and time costs attached. not trying to be a dick, curios mostly.

you guys are asking some good questions. I am no lawyer but I do play a mountain bike guide at times. I would keep in mind that if you get sued for negligence, (ignoring insurance/waiver and permitting/tenure) you are going to be held to expectation of an experts standard of care. being that there is no mountain biking guides association it is hard to say what this is. based on my a mental survey of other guides I know, at a very minimum this would mean an 80 hour first aid ticket, a reasonable rescue plan, a PMBI level 1, the ability to fix just about anything which may break on a trip with in reason. the ability to navigate by map and select appropriate terrain for the group.

that's just off the top of my head, this would all be sorted out at your expense in court. fun.
