Thank dog someone else is a MIPS-hater. I buy the science in a tight-fitting, full-face motorsport race helmet. I don't buy the science in a plastic-wrapped beer cooler with a cute little ratchet in the back to help you 'dial in the fit.' (I am not anti-helmet. I am a fan of plastic-wrapped beer coolers. Concussions suck.).

I'm two months in to a self-induced 'offseason' for the first time in seven years since moving to California, where it's genuinely so fucking nice outside you don't have any reasons not to ride your bike. But it got less and less fun, so I made it harder and more interesting and rode all singlespeeds for a while. And then all fixed gears for a while. And then I was out of ways to make it interesting so I stopped.

I don't miss it yet.

I've picked up new hobbies, run a half marathon for shits and giggles, and reveled in only doing half the volume of laundry each week. Bikes will come back, but the offseason feels good.

I have a set of 105 shifters from the mid-2000s. A good friend sold them to me for $20 when I was broke and so were the shifters on my bike. He died a few years later, and even though they're not currently on a bike, I'll never get rid of them.

I made an account to say that the string-tracing from The Adolescents to The Offspring to the Vandals to Agent Orange is one of the most enjoyable things I've read on the internet in months. Even better that it stemmed from Simple Pleasures. 

ps buy cheap clippers (like $10) and just shave it all off forever.
