Dear God..

http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/rds/cto/5555016478.html

I'm no expert but seems a bit pricey. There was an EVO 2 Final Edition on Vancouver Craigslist last fall for $50,000 CAD. Either way, cool car.

So I hate buying vehicles but...

Does anyone have a rough idea how much dealers mark up used vehicles advertise on autotrader etc., Also, how much mark up is considered reasonable, i.e. they make a reasonable living but you do not get screwed over?

I got $8k off original asking price on my current car. It was 10 months old, CPO, still under factory bumper to bumper warranty with no accidents. Had similar numbers in the past. I'm sure they still made money on it, plus they might get some sucker to pay the inflated asking price for your car once it's been traded in (if they don't wholesale it to another dealer).

The dealer knows what they paid for the car and how much it cost them to clean it up for the showroom. I don't think it's unreasonable for them to make money on it but some (ok, a lot) of them get greedy and hope a person falls in love with the car and lets emotion take over.

And what's with Documentation and Registration Fees. One dealer wanted $399 for each - $798. For filling out some paperwork? Isn't that their job? Did they have to go to law school to fill out these forms?

I had one dealer try to charge me $1,500 freight and PDI on a used car :dizzy:

Anyone who trades in their vehicle to a dealer is bending over for a @ss fvcking.

Yes you are bending over but no you don't have to take it. Personally I've found I can usually end up within about $1,000 total cost after all is said and done vs selling privately. For me I'd rather take that loss and not have to deal with the numerous idiots you have to deal with while trying to sell a car privately. My lazy side taking over I guess.

Just walk away then. Unless it's some sort of super rare vehicle, another one will come up somewhere else.

While looking for my current car I had one dealer that wanted $8k more than the difference I already had a quote from another dealer. Identical year/model/option/colour and near identical mileage. They said they weren't willing to budge so I said thanks and walked away. As long as you know what you want and are willing to jump on it when you find a fair price all it takes is time.

Nah, I suggest knowing exactly what you want, down to the options and then go out to the dealers that sell them.

For sure, but walking around with a bank draft with the payee space blank can't be a good idea. Will the bank even issue a bank draft with no payee? I really have no idea, I always just leave a deposit then get a bank draft when I go to pick up the car.

So do you just walk around with a blank $40K (or whatever) bank draft until you figure out where you're buying the car? Better not drop it :|

I've always found a deposit is good enough for them to hold it until you come back with the cash (bank draft).

This is how I usually start when trading in at a dealer on a used vehicle they have sitting there. Look up my trade's value on CBB, look up the value of the used vehicle I want to purchace on CBB. Go into the dealer and start with the difference between the two. Don't get hung up on what they are worth, focus on the difference you will be paying. I always tell them they can write whatever the hell they want for values on the sales agreement, all I care about is what I am actually paying out of pocket.

As you probably know, there are usually large mark ups on the price they ask for used vehicles at dealers.

Anyone know where the deal's on AP v3's are?

They have sales on sporadically directly from Cobb if you're willing to wait (4 of July last year I think). You might get lucky and find someone selling one on Craigslist, just be sure they've unmarried it from their car

Am I the only one here with my name on the wait list for one of these?

Technically you can get a greater return investing your money, but being mortgage free is easily the biggest way to reduce your monthly cash burn, therefore ensuring you need less cash-flow to be financially independent.

But using your money to make more money should mean you can pay your mortgage off sooner than if you just put the money down on the mortgage… if that makes any sense

use free cash, and equity if you want, to invest. money earning even just 6% is better than paying off debt at 2.5%.

Exactly. If you have a bunch of cash laying around why would you use it to pay down a 3% debt when the same money could be making you more than that invested somewhere else.

I'll say! Apple has done a great job of convincing their fans that they are the only provider that can do things that are actually pretty ubiquitous.

For sure, they are very good at that. Don't know how many times I've had friends excitedly show me some 'new feature' or functionality their iPhone has that's been available on Android for 6 months or a year already. I always get a chuckle out of it.

One of the biggest advantages with Apple stuff is that they have control over the hardware. It's also their biggest disadvantage. I've stuck with Nexus branded phones for several years now and have had pretty much zero issues.

Both OS's are great, hardware varies. The problem comes when people start comparing a $700 iPhone to a $150 Android phone.
