iPod vs. iRiver iHP-120

Why hasn't anyone mentioned an alternative to both.

Read some reviews on the Rio Karma: it looks awesome. Also, the cowon iAudio M3 is nice.

red romic boXXer stantions???

I have a friend who lives in Whistler and has the old world cups with the titanium nitride (gold) coating. It flaked like a mofo so he sent them to some shop in Van and they put the slippery silver on his existing stanchions for him (I'm almost positive it wasn't a RockShox shop). I know this doesn't answer your question, but I think it does show its possible to get a third party (not neccessarily romic) to coat your stanchions for you.

Good luck, I'd love to see a pic of blood red stanchions,

No more roads, going Mtn need advice.

I'd just like to say that I do not agree with the recommendation of bikes such as the stinky or the 4by. These are way too freeride oriented. I would say definately go ride a Specialized Enduro, and if you find that to be too "active," try the Giant NRS or the Specialized Epic.

Hope that helps, sorry to hear about your back,

minion or blue groove

How about "other." I know your only trying to decide between the kendas and the maxxis, but I would vote for michis (2.8, etc).

so yeah, go michelin!

possible new bikes

Yeah, my bike isn't really floating my boat anymore though, and its kinda run down: I think it'd be a pretty severe expenditure to get it where I want it. Besides, I've got major GAS (gear acquisition syndrom), and I'll be working almost the whole summer (so I dunno, maybe $3000ish?). A friend of mine is going to be getting a bb7, so I'll ride his when he takes delivery.

I'll look into the vp-free, foes, etc.

Thanks for the input,

possible new bikes

After being more or less completely out of the biking loop since my last ride (in the fall - it's sad I know), I'm beginning to look at some different bikes which I could possibly buy at the end of the summer (providing I don't buy a truck).

Right now I'm riding a 2001 BigHit Comp, more or less stock except tires and cockpit. Before I fell out of the loop, I was really into bb7s, and I still am, however I'm just wondering if there are some other cool new bikes similar to that. For example, one of my friends is currently deciding between the Turner DHR and the Canfield Forumula 1, both of which I like, although I think I prefer the bb7.

Suggest away!

Thanks,
Cam

Fromme Trail Building Rant!

Maybe try leaving a note in a ziploc bag for the builders. Might work?

I am happy about the choice of drivetrain, I've had it up to here (motions at neck) with Shimano bullshit - Saint looks nice but I'm tired of destroying derailleurs the day after buying a new one. I know they're trying to keep it light, etc. etc., but they really piss me off. I've never tried SRAM, but next chance I get I think I will.

Manual (Nikon) or AF(Canon) or Other

I dunno, I'd really like to learn how to shoot a full manual camera properly, and people on the photo.net boards say that the manual controls on AF cameras aren't what they should be. That said, I'd like to have the versatility of an AF camera. Damn, I'm so wishy-washy!

Thanks for the replies,

I second (or is it third) "compound" - that's a sick name, and I don't want any swag, I just think the world would be a better place with a bike called "The Compound."

cool - thanks a lot for the reply - I think it may be a better idea to go with AF, so that I can learn/take pictures where I have time in full manual mode and use the AF when I'm hurried - that sounds like more versatility to me.

Thanks,

With an AF camera you can turn it into a complete manual right?

I believe that I have narrowed my choice to two ranges of cameras - if you would suggest another please tell me.

I want a camera to learn on (in school classes, and on my own time) and to take good pictures of, well, mountain biking (and some scenery too).

I think that if I go the route of fully manual, it will be the Nikon FM2n, or similar. Whereas if I choose to go autofocus I would pick the Canon EOS 630, or if I can find a good price, EOS RT. If you believe there is a better camera for my uses in either category please specify, as I know very little about photography.

Thanks a lot, and sorry about my double post B$,
