I might get a friends frame off him but the shock is toast. Anyone know what size and stroke the shock is. It's in storage and he doesn't want to dig it up unless I want it for sure, but I would like to know I can get a shock for it first before I agree to get it. Shock is beyond repair so rebuilding is not an option.

Reading forums apparently this is not a great idea, because the structure isn't that strong.

Found a picture earlier while I was at work of a padded wooden frame that has a couple of steel bars running across it that I could attach my Thule racks onto. Then the whole thing is strapped around the trailer with cargo straps. It's certainly a less invasive solution than bolting through the roof, but strength could be an issue.

What are you towing it with? It might be a lot easier to get a setup on the vehicle than the tent trailer and you can get the bikes and canoe to places when you don't have the tent trailer.

It affects resale value more than anything. Unless it's a hack job then it should be fairly obvious if it's a turd or not

Unless you found one from a good mech/bodyman that was fixing for them self or a loved family member they are almost always hacked together for as cheap as possible to maximize profit.

With all this fabricating needed. How is the under carriage/ rear bumper area to try get a receiver hitch fabbed on their to hold a bike rack. That way you wouldn't be compromising the water proofing of the top.
