If you want to go the whole hog and have to pull and replace bearings, I ordered a custom set of bearing pullers/presses from here : https://www.bearingprotools.com/

Granted, it's a tool for a specific frame, but if you're finding you replace your bearings more often then it amortizes after one replacement cycle compared to LBS prices - I also don't have anything else I need a bearing tool for so a custom one suits me fine.

I used to dream about those Ohlin UD forks....and Eddie Lawson's up there? Amazing.

That's uncannily similar to the Backcountry Research strap I have. The additional side pockets are a good move though.

Being daKine, I can expect them to be easier to get hold of though.

I enjoy facing down the mind games brought on by woodwork - the sudden horizon before a drop that in reality isn't too crazy and you feel a little silly about balking. Then again, some others are getting the combination of guts and technique working correctly - some of the natural ones on ladies for example - and then the payoff is huge for me.

I was discussing with a friend the way to stop the plateaus and going-through-the-motions feeling brought on by constant riding and how to make it always feel like the first time. There are many ways to approach trails and riding them, but it does take a little mindfulness to figure out why and what to do about it instead of just smashing down and feeling a little unfulfilled.

I was sort of hoping you were going to min-max the helmet itself by some kind of MacGyvering

It appears the Brits have a huge chubby for these things.  Which is strange due to the lack of long steep climbs on most of the island.

Also - there's very little 'builder driven' trails. Trails are usually either 1: been there for centuries, 2: trail centres where someones being paid to maintain them or 3: someone builds it and abandons it.

Hiked through Griffins/Roadside/Wardens/Floppy/38DD and saw nothing white on the ground. The dirt smelled good.

I spent 8 years watching SUPs take over breaks in SoCal which just ended up in bloody skirmishes of entitlement.

As healthy as this thread is/was/shall be, we will all want to begin engaging the land managers and dnv councillors on a personal email level now before the rush of emails coming from hikers who have had near misses from ebikes and wish for all wheeled objects to be removed. There is a real possibility that this will become the main issue we'll be facing whilst we debate on-line who deserves to be riding what on a particular trail. If you're going to type here, make time to type an email as well.

As much as we have a healthy and robust advocacy association, we've all seen that trail usage and trail building permitting is always seen from a land manager standpoint - if there is enough movement from one voting bloc, then that will become the reality. Make sure as mountain bikers, our deck gets stacked.

I agree. Attributes like modulation, bite point etc are quite subjective.

What I'd like to see in a quick review is the mechanical side - how easy to bleed, how easy to adjust (if adjustability is available), does a more expensive version represent a better item from a repair standpoint, what's the longevity, heat dissipation. 

For example I have guideRS - I find them really easy to bleed, but the pistons are prone to sticking. They can be rebuilt from scratch. Do the Codes represent a large change in the mechanical attributes  (as opposed to the subjective feel). Is there a difference between the R or RSC ?

Do brake systems have longevity or does this never become an issue if riders are swapping out framesets every 3-5 years?
