My buddy had a similar noise. He took apart the whole bike and regreased everything except the seat collar. Guess what turned out to be the problem?

I haven't thought of this before, but I have a couple of riding buddies who ride a little knock-kneed, but only with the one leg. This results in them using only the outside half of the pedal on that side. Perhaps they would benefit from having a wider pedal on that side. Sadly it's the right leg for both, so they won't be able to split a pair of pedals.

I tend to beat up the trailing edge of my leading pedal, but bang my toes on the trailing foot. Maybe I'm riding with my feet in a wedge (leading heel down, trailing heel up) like Kyle Warner would tell you to, without having noticed 'till now.

I've tried a lot of different pedals. Both (old) Shimano Saints and Nukeproof Horizons have been favourites, but right now I'm very happy with Chromag Contacts. I think they are the perfect size for my size 43 as any longer/wider would get smashed onto rocks a lot more. I tend to bend the rear-/innermost pin on the left (forward) pedal from hitting rocks.

James Wilson of Pedaling Innovations and MTB Strength Training Systems has a lot to say about this subject in his "Flat Pedal Revolution Manifesto: https://www.bikejames.com/strength/the-flat-pedal-revolution-manifesto-how-to-improve-your-riding-with-flat-pedals/. He used to write pieces for NSMB, but I haven´t been able to find any articles concerning this topic. Maybe you have a better chance Andrew?

I've been riding arch over axle ever since reading the manifesto. I had to lower my saddle by a centimeter or so, but never thought about reach. Riding in Vans I think I prefer concave over convex, but don't have a lot of experience on the latter, only from riding my sons bike from time to time. Strange thing is, that my Vans are more fleksible than my Five Tens (Freerider & Impact) so I should feel the concave even more.

Problem with budget bikes having modern geo, is that you don't need to buy a new bike.

Would magenta be harder or easier than purple? And how many cm of drop would determine the difference? Marine blue and turqoise are easy to define though.

Taprider is right. Detachable chinbars came in fashion alongside Enduro racing. Now the hype is on Downcountry, and where's the sense in upscaling you're helmet if you're scaling down your bike? 

I like to scare myself a little when I'm riding, and there are more ways of doing that. One is going faster another is wearing less protection. I used to wear the Specialized Deviant Full Face for trailriding from way back in '05 untill the Super 2 came out, but in recent years my focus has changed from going the fastest to going the funnest. For me this means slow tech steep stuff where crashspeeds aren't much higher than falling a couple meters when hiking/climbing. At the same time trail helmets have evolved to better cover your head/neck, and they have the same large peak, as the full face helmets, that you can push up to look even cooler.

Yes. It seems like just the kind of trails I’m looking for. This is what I’d call real mountainbiking. I especially like the way it looks like it’s never seen a showel. Sure there are skinnies, but it looks like there hasn’t been done much grooming other than just moving a couple of logs to show you the way. Can’t wait to go. Thanks again for the video.
