Getting Fat - March 13, 2014, 9:49 a.m.

My wife's blog post covers our experience renting and riding fat bikes up in Pemberton.

Our experience is slightly different than Morgan's, I'm wondering if the wetter coastal snow is more conducive to riding than the dryer, fluffier snow of the Kootenays?

Good Cheap Gear: Shimano M530 Trail Pedals - March 6, 2014, 9:39 a.m.

Nope, any of the trail series caged SPDs can't be used with out clipping in. If you look at the side view pic, you'll see the cleat mechanism is a lot higher than the cage, that makes them very slippery.

If you want to use them without cleats, check out the Shimano full cage style pedals. Be warned that the cheap ones won't take much abuse to the plastic cage though.

World’s First Gearbox Fat Bike - Feb. 19, 2014, 11:37 a.m.

I've had a rear derailleur lock up solid over night due to frozen mud when doing a multi-day fall ride in the Chilcotin. We had to warm up the drivetrain by the fire to chip the mud off.

Weekend Warmup - Feb. 8, 2014, 8:28 a.m.

The Lost Coast Fat bike video makes me want to get a fat bike, load up the touring gear and hit some remote beach. It is long but worth watching if you are into that kind of stuff.

Coastal Crew Announce Coastal Gravity Park - Oct. 9, 2013, 10:54 a.m.

Interesting idea. I had trouble figuring out the location based on the perspective above so I looked it up on Google maps:

(I haven't watched the videos so they might explain that better than the image does.)

Matt Hunter – Forgotten Dirt in Afghanistan - Aug. 10, 2013, 10:10 p.m.

Finally watched this, very impressive. Looking forward to reading the Bike mag article too.

If anyone is reading this and hasn't seen it yet, it is worth your time to watch it.

The North Shore Beer Run – Fat Bike Growler Style - July 19, 2013, 10:43 a.m.

Yay to Growlers, something that has been lacking from the BC beer scene. (At least compared to Washington & Oregon.)

Final NSMBA Toonie Enduro Thursday! - July 17, 2013, 11:59 a.m.

Discussion thread:

July means it’s the Tour de France - July 12, 2013, 1:47 p.m.

BTW, the link to "This guy" is broken.

BC Bike Race Day 3: Powell River - July 3, 2013, 3:58 p.m.

Great summary of the race day, but what happened to the articles for Day 1 & 2?

The Relics of Shaketown – Part I - July 3, 2013, 10:57 a.m.

Thanks for writing up the article, great read.
I need to learn more about the North Shore history.
Most of my BC history knowledge from this era is from exploring the KVR and other smaller rail lines across BC & northern Washington state.

5 Things About Strava - June 25, 2013, 10:16 a.m.

Even though it is obvious Morgan wrote this (Hi Denver!), how come he didn't put his name down as author?

Not a Strave user here although I do use a GPS for all my rides 'Out There' but that is for Track and Waypoint purposes, not speed.

Fromme For Sale - May 23, 2013, 10:54 a.m.

Check the PRO zoning document on the DNV site, as a park a caretakers residence is allowed. Just have to keep it less than 40 feet tall.

Shop Visit: Chris Dekerf - May 14, 2013, 11:37 a.m.

Thanks for the article, I've only met Chris once many years ago at his shop but have had a soft spot for his work for years.

The Goods at Sea Otter – Day One - April 19, 2013, 2:41 p.m.

"aluminum pins for the Spike pedals"
Any reason other than weight? Steel pins wear and shear off fast enough as it is, aluminum pins must have a life measured in hours.
