Stay in Whistler or move on?

Yo..

In Whistler at the moment looking for work. Landing a job doesn't seem to be as straight-forward and easy as I had thought. Not sure whether to stick it out and hope something comes along or move on to another ski area like Big White, Fernie, Revelstoke or somewhere. It will be about a 10 hour bus journey to anywhere else good from here though, been on the greyhound bus website.

Any suggestions? Most places here don't seem to be hiring for another couple of weeks or so.

If I knew I'd get work here then I'd stay! I'd like some job to do with skiing though, ski tech, boot fitter, something like that.

Cheers.

Welcome to shoulder season. Don't expect any work until the snow flies.

there's only minimum people working anywhere at the moment bud. Lots of places closed or running on bare bones staff due to no tourists.
stick it out. party a bit, meet friends and get ready to work when it comes.

or go to big white and leave the pow here for me!

There will be lots of work when the snow comes. I read in the paper a few weeks ago that they are forecasting a huge labour shortage this year. The work will be there, it's just that there are no tourists in town spending right now.

This is why people tell you to bring enough money for at least two months of unemployment. It is pretty much the same with all resort towns so I'm not sure how much luck you will have moving on, except for a slightly lower cost of living.

or were you just planning to chase good snow around and are just starting your winter here ?

Lol i like the cougar idea ;-). All i want is somewhere that has good challenging terrain where i can get my stoke on… never skiied in any US or Canadian resort before so i don't know a lot about them. Everyone says go to Whistler though! I don't really want to leave now i'm here too.

I'd say tough it out. Once it gets going and you find work, you will not regret staying in whistler. Whistlers got lots of chill folk with a decent party/drinkin scene too, if thats on your radar at all

I'm happy to get outside and enjoy nature while I can, but I fear for the future of humanity

Go talk to shops about jobs they will have coming up.

I'm sure managers might look favourably on a motivated ski tech coming by now.

Don't expect work right away but they may have pk nights that you could come hang at
