On the other hand, in Switzerland you can ride up to the alpine on your e-mtb to see a sign of a bear and charge your battery at the refugio at the top while you drink your beer before you descend back down ;-)
If this isn't a statement of pathetic I don't know what is. I know as a fact you can't outrun a grizzly but the part about the recharge and beer at the top.......don't see this on the Tour de France or any other marathon I know of.

the context? i spend a season in whistler once and would like to come back for a longer holiday, with the kenevo sl this time. as you can remove the main battery and travel with 2 160wh batteries which the bike can be operated with even if there is no main battery present (making it one of the few air travel compatible ebikes out there). and then i would like to ride that trail. yet, there are restrictions in place. which would me prevent me from riding it. hence my opposition to this rule. enough context?
Cowards die many times. Brave men die only once. Stick with the motor and batteries. At least it makes it easy to know the difference.

I don't live in the area, I ride eBikes. But I don't get it - if a trail system is off limit to eBikes...big deal. There are plenty that aren't. Just pedal a non-powered bike or skip it. The idea that everyone is entitled to go wherever they want, however they want with no consequences is just wild to me.

so you would accept the 2m rule in my home state too? a whole state every single trail off limits but a few ones that are legal for mountainbikes? the whole black forest?

There are entire trail networks near me that are off-limits to eBikes. I don't worry about it. I just ride my regular bike...and if there comes a time I can't pedal those trails on a regular bike - well, that's okay too.

Fuck this sport is getting expensive. (Yes...a derail. But I just needed to blurt that shit out.)
Build out a well spec'd bike from discount/closeout stuff, ignore the product hype and just to ride the thousands of km of amazing trail around BC while camping out of old dirtbag truck.
It's only expensive if you buy into the hype and need a bling bike and a Sprinter van.
There are dirtbags out there riding non stop and laughing at the "it's too expensive" comments.
Hmm this reminds me. There was a thread on here back in 2007 on how to be a dirtbag mtb rider. LOL to bad if disappeared during the forum reset and upgrades. Maybe should be restarted.

that was not the question, i‘m just curious where you would set your own limit in what kind of rules you’d follow…
I'm 68 years old and I still ride an acoustic bike. I don't ride the trails I used to, but I still enjoy my time in the saddle.
E-bikes on MTB trails can be a real problem because it sometimes gives people the false sense of security that they can ride any trail they want.
Like the time I was going down Executioner and came across a couple of tourists on e-bikes who looked totally lost and out of their comfort zone and they asked me how they
should get down the mountain.

No idea why you are so edgy about that whole thing, but I agree ... that issue prevents you from going to Whistler? Well, why not simply rent a bike for a day or find a forum member or a local you eventually know personally and have them organize an acoustic bike for a crate of beer. I guess you are n
because its a stupid rule that needs to be evaluated at some point again anyways because at there is gonna be a time when even in canada most sold bikes will have a motor. you can’t restrict that area for ever the same way you can’t restrict ALL mountainbikes to trails that are wider than 2m in baden württemberg…

Well you are in luck the way I see it. You can bring your Kenevo, and since you can remove the batteries, you can simply take them out and ride up LOTS while you are here no? This way you can both ride the bike you have brought with you, and respect the trail use regulations that are in effect.
"you can’t restrict that area for ever"
Yes you can. Cars are ubiquitous and we still have pedestrianised areas.

FWIW there are lots of areas here where bikes are not allowed at all, for example most provincial parks including Garibaldi near Whistler which has some amazing alpine trails. But you can hike those trails and it's actually nice to have such great hiking terrain without bikes.
Like mtb riders before them, e-mtb riders can organize and advocate for trail access. The mtb access to the Sproatt alpine was gained after many years of advocacy by riders.
