Hey folks,

I suppose this forum is directed to people who live in the Whistler area of British Columbia or bike there regularly. Myself and a friend of mine are looking to spend July/August '07 sampling the delights of British Columbia biking and are looking for a bit of advice and guidance.

We come from Ireland and we need a biking experience like no other, having spent two weeks this summer in the Alps (Les Gets/Morzine) we decided to broaden our horizons a bit and explore the Canadian biking scene and what better place to start than B.C. The problem is, is that info on accomadation, places to bike, transport is very limited. Now I have checked the Whistler/Blackcomb website and it has a lot of info but is really only useful if you are going for a short vacation.

Any advice on places to stay, bike, eat, drink would be welcome. Just hit me with info that you guys think will be useful it will be aooreciated.

Cheers,

Tristan.

Hi,
I'm from France and I spent about 3 weeks per year in Whistler. I'm just returning from Whistler 2 days ago but I've planned to return in Whistler in August 2006.
For the accomodation you can find condo and townhouse on this website: http://www.resortac.com

To eat, you can buy food and eat in your condo or they are a lot of restaurant in Whistler. Same thing for the bar but for example some bars are very known like GLC, Longhorn, Amsterdam pub etc etc….

If you're looking for lower budget solutions, Whistler Blackcomb staff housing is the cheapest accommodation you're going to find.

If you do a search on this forum, you should be able to find multiple threads that talk about planning trips to Whistler for a mid-range amount of time (more than a week, less than the entire summer) as well as information on budgets, etc.

Cheers for all the advice on accomadation lads, but I'm also looking for other places to ride in and around the Whistler Area, basically the plan is to get as much and as varied a riding experienceas possible (all gravity of course). Would all this be provided in the whisler Blackcomb area or would you guys recommend other places, like Kelowna, Kamloops, Nelson? I'd like to do a bit of travelling around to different spoits just to get the full B.C. experience. I'm not asking for the location of secret trails or anything just enough to get a full impression of what B.C. has to offer.

Cheers,

Tristan

Two important questions:
- How long are you planning on being over here?
- Are you thinking 'low budget', 'money is no object' or somewhere in the middle?

We need to know these two answers before being able to provide any valid suggestions.

I've got a season's supply of Mr.Noodles and a pup tent with a large costco sleeping bad you two will have to share.

I may be able to swing a bunch of coupon's for riding and rentals.

I may be able to get a pair of reinforced tricylces with powerwheels suspension.

That should do the trick.

2 months + 2 people + taxes = $8,913.74 (UK british pounds payable upon arrival)

Cheers for the advice guys. To answer the questions that have come up in the thread.

We are coming over for two months, budget wise I would be looking at a budget of $8,500 canadian each. Now I don't know the going rate of accomadation over there but I imagine this should do us alright. We will be bringing our own bikes and equipment also. North Vancouver? What's the attraction? You see we don't hear much about these places over here, just what comes up on the web and in the mags. Is it worth the visit, what trails?
