well as luck would have it we did space the first 12 feet at about 1" as we were low on boards…..hopefully that clears off most of the mud.. the remaining 36 ft of boards are spaced pretty tight..

Even 1/2" spacing is good as it lets air get through to help dry any moisture out. That alone will prevent rot from setting in as quickly.

The boards are pretty fresh cut so hoping for a lil shrinkage (not like that!) to occur.

on the topic of mud shedding i went and checked the government built bridges that are tightly spaced here on teh ssc that i modeled this bridge after. there is in fact some mud build up. it seems to get all pushed to either side and the actual "bike lane" stays clear.TBH i had never noticed this was happening before as like i said the bike lane stays clear and unaffected. now if this was the shore or whistler with increased traffic it might not stay as clear. i also noticed the hard rains like we had this past week rinse the bridges clean as clean could be..we get lots of rain.
we will either dirt top this or ride it as is.. see how it fares in the coming winter.. should ride smooth all summer..
i love buildin bridges and then riding them..it gives me trailbuilder woody!

I've found dogs will go around any bridge unless absolutely necessary. I've seen a little terrier come tearing down the trail, stop at a bridge and back up and then run and jump clear over the bridge, making the dog spacing discussion moot for me.

Funny, my dog loves bridges and skinnies. The only thing she won't follow me over is teeters after she got launched off of one in Cumberland.

my old dog zirie used to run the bridges. once on dna yes i know pre divorce and renaming to dnz…she fell thru some rungs and almost broke her doggie leg!!!! :( :( :( i was horrified!!
she never ran across a bridge again. but the dog issue is real IMO, now i space tight…also woman in heals..gotta think of everything…

I built something kinda cool on Torrent when I was on the coast last winter, a ramp to rock roll to downramp thing, check it out if you're ever riding that trail!
Scream Machine is slowly being reclaimed by the forest, there's a couple inches of moss growing on most of the ramps, pretty cool to see the cycle…that trail is around 10 years old now as well!
Somehow I have no desire to build trails around the Kootenays, but as soon as I'm back on the SSC I can't wait to fire up the chainsaw and get dirty, must be something in the water :)
