mark that looks amazing. The only headsup I'll give you is that sometimes if you put rungs so close together mud packs on the rungs. Jer is now spacing the CBC rungs a little further apart for that reason. I cant really tell how close they are in the pic so just ignore if the mud isnt a problem

wow, rough day on the trail today. there is nothing more frustrating than realizing you've made an error and have to rip stuff out an rebuild it. i had a choice of taking the lazy route out and just cutting out a tree to fix my problem or to do things right and rebuild a ladder section. even tho i really wanna get this thing done i don't want to cut corners - so rebuild it was. i made a couple other little booboos too, but nothing major and they will be easy to fix.
t'was one of those days where i planned to work hard and get a lot done. i worked hard, but at the end of the day it feels like i took a step back. guess you can't win em all.
We don't know what our limits are, so to start something with the idea of being limited actually ends up limiting us.

you seriously split those slats by hand? either you should be a professional log splitter, or vancouver cedar is weird. Our Cedar is white, your is red. Different species perhaps?

yeah, all the rungs were split by hand. i've split some ugly ones too. the key to getting rungs like that is using the right piece of wood. if you take the cut the rungs from an older tree (at least 75yrs) and closer to the base the wood has no knots in it and the grain runs very straight. wait till i throw up the pics of the planks i split for the wallride; 7ft tall, 1ft wide and almost as nice as those guys. getting palnks that long to split nice is not easy.
the cedar is reddish (western red cedar) in color in that pic because it's wet. when it dries out it lightens up in colour. it may be a different sub-species that what you guys commonly use to build. you may have been using yellow cedar which is typically found at higher elevations and is much whiter than the red cedar.
