Eh Tom,

I have a MS250. Great saw. Really good power (30% more than a MS200) and reasonable weight.

To me reasonable is 15lbs with a bar, gas and oil, so it's no light weight.

Maybe I'll try a ti bolt kit on it and lose a pound ;)

You should also try drilling some speed holes in the bar.
not only will it be lighter, but it'll cut faster too;)

Well I think I'm going to go the weight weenie route and get the MS 192 rear-handle.

another option is this nice small saw at Home Depot for $199

we've got one in a pack - nice for cleanup after storms… runs long time without refuelling.

As long as you are not running the echo long hours, it would do just fine for most trailwork.

Although I'm sure you will be happy with a 192 rear handle

Hell it's a chainsaw….how could you not be happy.

I'd rather have the 200, but I can't justify the significant price increase over the 192. I'm not sure how Stihl can either…it's almost double.

it has to do with the way it's built. the 192 is still a great saw, but the 200 is a professional arborists saw and is just built to a higher level of quality.

stihl ms192 = made in USA, lots of plastic parts

stihl ms200 = made in Germany, lots of metal parts

The cheaper stihl's, ms192, 250, 290, 390, etc. are all made in USA
The expensive stihls, ms200, 260, 361, etc. are made in Germany

It's like comparing a chevy to a bmw
they're both good cars, but the bmw is way, way better :)

I love my 260pro w/18" bar. No problems either. The guy I do work with has the 192 and it's so small and easy to use. A good choice. Just remember with the short bar it can twist really fast and before you know it the bar is kicked back (low rotational moment). That's why those little saws are only recommended for arborists. They can be way more deadly than a bigger saw.

The smaller 192 is not meant for heavy use so big cutting will kill the saw. Loud too. The muffler isn't much to write home about, but then again, with a safety helmet on it doesn't matter and everyone knows where/what you're doing. Pretty safe that way.

The MS200 costs more than the MS260. Something funny there. Maybe because the 200 is not as common?

I got my 260 pro on sale for 550 at Arrow. I'd highly recommend that saw if it's in your price range.

hahaha

poor tom. he started off loking at two saws and now there's a huge list of recommendations. just dip into the kids college fund and get a 200, 260 pro and an 880 just for shits and giggles.

Hey, I have more than one bike…why not more than one chainsaw?
