Been a while.
I didn't get up to much building in the last half of last year, but was out doing a lot of diggin/dirt work. Didn't take many pics…don't know why.
Sometime in October I decided to take on an old abandoned trail at the local mountain (Moose Mountain). The trail was known as Rhubarb, but I found out that the original name of it was Billy Dog, so Billy Dog would be the name.
The first step was to clear blowdown and deadfall from the last five years…not a quick task, but at least none of the trees are really big in these parts. Took me about 20 hours to clear the established trail.
The problem with this trail was that both the entrance and exit were very unestablished. The entrance was 3-400 feet off of the road and was pure fall-line down to it through a grassy meadow. Then the trail essentially just ended 4-500 feet from any spot that would be considered a good ending. You could veer left to a cutline or right to an old decommissioned section of another trail. Finding the new entrance took half a day and clearing it took another few days, same with the ending. Sometime in late October or early November, the entire line was set. The entrance will need a fair bit of benching as will one section of the ending. Several minor re-routes on the old part of the trail will improve flow and limit fall line riding etc..
Since the new year, I've really just been out there prepping corners for berms, wood for some sweet jumps, planning, etc…until yesterday. Unfortunately, I can't do anything useful with the ground yet so I figured I'd just build some sweet jumps.
Rolled in with the big saw, extra gas, huge wad of nails, and f'ed it up one time.
Made this a couple weeks ago. Though, I'm a retard and it's a good hour+ hike to get it to the trailhead.
We like these kinds of jumps…this one will be a nice easy 18-20' gap coming from crossing the cutline to sending it into the bush. I always work with friends: My saw, my fuel, and my warmth.
Other side.
A few twists and turns after the above one, a nice floater.
A few hundred feet further, another one. This one will have to be dug in a bit…it was built a bit too tall.
Wide open trees down here..should make some nice photo ops. Very eerie part of the forest…I kept feeling like shit was going to come alive Lord of the Rings style.
I ran out of petrol…and 6" nails…
