Friendly reminder that this is a good time of year to ride with a folding saw, lots of blowdown happening now.

Try a set of folding loppers, will cut through anything smaller than 3" way faster than a saw. Great for the small stuff.

+1 to a Silky. Just know how to use it - pull to cut or you will bend it.

For a small folding saw to leave in your pack year-round we carry these from MEC:

I have Sven saw myself, but the new buck saw looks way better.
So many options

+1 as well. blades are flimsy, but they sell spares at MEC now. otherwise IRL is also a good place for replacement blades.

I liked the design of the filzer one. talked to the owner of the company about it. might pick one up as an alternative to the silky.

problem i have with the silky saws is that the blades are so damn fragile. they also have their limit in terms of leverage once you get so far into a piece of wood. but they cut very fast and folding saws are so much quicker for limbing stuff etc.

I carry one of these with me on alot of rides, but only used it a few times. I found it in the middle of a cutblock at work one day so it was "free", but don't know how it compares to the other saws on the market. Seems robust, if a bit heavy and the blade is only about 8" long so what it cuts is somewhat limited I guess.

There used to be another company that made that filzer saw for years then stopped. I love that design but already ended up with Sven saw as I could not get one of the others…
I might fab one up to use my Sven saw blade one day …

I'm thinking about carrying one while skiing… especially in the duffy…

Time for trailsaw porn…

The black Silky and the small Fanno are the only ones that come out instead of the chainsaw.

Ironically, no Sven saw.

The bucksaw in a tube isn't "new". I got that one in 2002. Setting it up wastes more time if you're using it in and out of the riding pack. I no longer use it but it does have the advantage of blade tension. The Silkys teeth are just so much sharper and longer lasting though.

You can see both my cheap folding saws are broken or bent. Both are on a second blade already, as is the Silky and the buck. Only the Fannos (wooden handles) have survived straight still.
