I always find tons of young red cedars that have live healthy branches but end up being punky. Good way to test for good wood is take a draw knife and skin a bit of it while still standing or already blown down. Generally if the draw knife is pulling off more then just the bark that baby is no good. I usually just use my finger nails or a blade to check but a draw knife is nice.

yes i am pretty familiar with a tree in that state….know exactly what you are referring too. Young Cedars are kind of weird like that.

Yeah definitely gonna be some tables comin. Slabs get stacked on top of each other with sticks inbetween to stop cupping as they dry.

What saws and mills are you running?
I'm definitely getting a mill once I've got a few more tanks through the saw. With only 88cc there is no way it will handle anything like that though.
Both are 880's, granberg mills, 60, 42 and 36 bars.

I've been trying to decide between the 30" mill and a 32" bar, or the 36" mill with a 36" bar. I'm leaning towards the 36" mill because it would allow me to run a 42" bar on a larger saw if I wanted to upgrade down the road.

Go the big one, your 390 will be able to mill some decent sized stuff
