This stuff was impossible to split nicely. I used my axe and wedges to break it in to smaller chunks and free hand milled it with the saw.
I've used yellow cedar before but this tree was by far the hardest one I've tried to work with. The bridge isn't perfect, but it is far better than the mess it covered. It will be about 30'x5' when completed.

those are slabs
thanks for all the info.. pretty sure they are young red cedars that Ive found - blown right over so they should make decent 15' stringers. I just thought that the smaller cedars sometimes get punky pretty quick even though they are cedars. I should have taken some pics of some of the cedar quarries Ive found..i love the smell of fresh split old growth. mmmmm
