Hi all,
I want to do a bit of trail maintenance but my wife reminded me I don't have any tools here in Canada! So - can you guys please give me some advice on what and where to buy. I am thinking square mouth shovel and mattock (or alternative?) to start with. Strong but light. I don't mind paying for quality. Suggestions on shops and brands? West or North Van preferably.

Thanks, Ben

I recommend getting a spade, a 5lb cutter mattock and a couple buckets for the buffing work you asked me about. Should cost around $85 for the lot. Home depot is my favourite place to buy, they're fairly cheap and have a good selection.

^^ that. Clippers also help for cutting out roots.

then for woodwork, a small mallet, a good saw like a Fanno, or maybe a chainsaw

Fire Shovel = $8
Pulaski = $12
Buckets from Finning = Free

That will cover your needs for earthworks.

you will have to drive to gasp surrey. Definitely not convenient for North Shore folk. Get someone for Surrey to pick up the tools and drop them off when they come over to ride the shore?

also, I would call ahead to the Surrey store before making the drive. Not sure they stock up on fire fighting tools… but they can order them in.

Awesome service in Campbell River. If they don't have the tool you want in stock they will find it for you.

C'mon mate, I don't even know where Surrey is! I thought it was just a word they put on a road sign on the way to the USA.

Cheers Ben

A couple of used pulaskis if anyone's looking for one. New handles and sharpened well. I picked one up and like it.

I have some 20L buckets if you want them. Plastic and a few metal ones.
