I was up on the mountain by myself the other day so decided to split up some cedar for something I've been working on. Had a nice tree picked out but when I cut off a round and started splitting it found that it was rotten right through. So I continued looking around for a better piece and saw a short section of a log on the ground with the center rotted right out. Cut off a quarter of it and voila!

(Sorry for the big pic)

ting ting ting POP! Beautiful pieces.

not the best picture, but here ya go

they're available at pacific arborist in n. van
16" or 24" blade and they cut like a mofo

looking at the pacific arborist website, they only have this one.. but i dont think its the same:

the teeth dont look like theyd be as good for shedding

edit. if you anyone knows the name brand/model name of the saw (quoted picture) so that I can call Pacific Arborist and see if they have it in stock (or if anyone knows that PA has it in stock)… thatd be super helpful.

True Dat! Those fiskars axes are pretty nice though, I've got a couple of the chopping axes and should get a splitter for doing firewood.

you know i have a bunch of axes and some splitting mauls as well as wedges galore. i have never used one of those fiskar axes w the built in wedges. they might be pretty good. i actually dont like my splitting maul compared to my regular axe. i dont find it splits any better at all.

i pretty much go thru one axe handle per season heating the house. last year after about 5 seasons the axe head split into two and i had to get a new axe. (thats when you know you have gotten your monies worth!) two weeks ago i broke that handle and read that you could throw the axe into a fire and burn out the left over handle. i did that and it worked awesome. then i fished it out of the fire w a piece of rebar and thru it in a puddle to cool it down. well the hole didnt contract back to its proper size and i had to buy another all new axe..

2 yrs in a row!! gawdamn!!

I like double bit axes as they allow me to make a second split on the upswing.

I've used axes, splitting mauls, froes and wedges. I personally prefer wedges. Froes are too stinkin load (when used with a 5lbs. hammer) and mauls aren't as accurate as wedges. Plus wedges are dirt cheap.
