A safety-oriented inspection of the CBC trail found unsafe structures that will be removed through the rest of the summer. Questions or concerns should be directed to [email protected] or 604.432.6200 rather than replying to this post. Thank-you.
CBC structure removal
Unsafe features on CBC? Pretty dumbed down trail. Can't imagine what?
I blame the builder and his sub par work… ;):eek2:

what we knockin' out here?
Will they be replaced?
The whole gerbil cage section was taped off today. Hopefully that is not what is coming out, although I have my suspicions that it is…

All of them. :flame:
the gerbil cage log rides were getting pretty rotted last time I looked at them.

if you build it, they will come. When you move on, then others need to come and build…

didn't they get fixed at the last trail day up there?

not the log rides over the swamp. Just the big entrance ladder
The entry to that big ladder was a bit shonky after the fix. It looked to me as if someone had pulled the ramp to the side to close the feature, breaking one of the supports in the process. That seemed unnecessary to me. Sure the entry needed work, and the log next to the stump just before the right hand turn a bit later needed replacing, but I hope those two spots don't mean the end of the whole thing.
Hey folks - I work for the evil metro van as most people already know.
I am first and foremost a mtb trail builder and rider, so I have the interested of the riding community at heart when I am at work. We inspected the trail with JP earlier this year, and he even agreed to pull the gerbil cage out due to safety concerns. It was rotting in places and falling apart.
The log that is sawed out was rolling downhill and ripping the whole structure apart. THe log ride over the swamp is cracked and laying in the swamp. The ramp between these 2 logs was cracked in 2 places. The other chunk missing out of the middle of the gerbil cage after the sky bridge entrance was cracked. And the entrance ramp…well I kicked that out with 1 foot. It might have wrecked the support but if that didn't happen from me kicking it, it would have happened when the manky rocks/dirt at the entrance supported by a rotting piece of crap log finally gave out with a kids group riding it.
Metro Van doesn't plan to repair the gerbil cage as it is not a necessary part of the trail. Today I repaired the "easy line" which is now the only line. JP plans to work up there during august and may or may not work on the gerbil cage. There is also a trail day up there later this year. If anybody is interested in working on it, contact the LSCR at the above emails or PM me and I can point you in the right direction.
The reality of this stuff for landowners is that sketchy, manky old stunts that are rotting and failing are huge liabilities and have to be removed.
In other news, we also fixed up the ladder at the exit of the trail with new rungs since they got completed skid through. We aren't all bad…

Oh yea, and dont leave your garbage laying around on the mountain. Pack it in, pack it out. Take a look around that area next time you ride it…it's disgusting. And the red bull pile at the top of the trail? please.

Considering this structure is 10 years old, it did well. RIP
