But then, last time I was in PoCoMo I was definitely thinking "this place NEEDS more townhouses." have they even sold half the inventory that's already been built up there?

Plus, they have to rush and plug Port Moody with traffic before PoMo takes on their own double-down-on-density down on their waterfront.

It will be a shame to lose good trails just to over-supply our way into a housing crash - but I guess if there is demand?!

7 and 8 will take out a few trails. 9, 14, 15 and the bottom right grid I thought that was all being developed all along?

Should call the police. If that is trail sabotage, it represents an attempt to cause serious bodily harm to another person. Even if the police are unable to do anything, it may help increase awareness, or even put some pressure on the perp to have the police informed and involved.
