I doubt many trail builders look at what they produce as Art, but the Art is in there.
How do you build Art into your trails? Is it simply a state of mind, or a statement for all to see and interpret as such?

rock work is an art sometimes, it looks pretty damn cool when you get everything to fit well.
It's doubly satisfying when it passes the test of time (and you can keep people on it):
Please let me demonstrate the ride around; really it's no trouble.
wow:damn:

I see you put the blue team on the job. That is such a nice dirt bridge. How it is standing up to heavy rain and rider traffic?
LOL, I have no idea how anyone could roll that, I know it's not big, but that's nuts.

No doubt. I try to make my work compliment the natural surroundings. When I pick out a new line, I am looking for fun terrain of course, but always keep an eye out for giant old growth snags, twisted gnarled yews, epic moss and old man's beard zones, waterfalls, scenic vistas, etc.
I generally try to make woodwork as sculptural and organic as possible. I want it to look like motion.
I put alot of extra effort purely into the aesthetics.

Ideas I think about when building:
permanance and order vs. decay and disorder.
Man's place in the natural world.
Light and shadow.
line, weight vs. delicacy.
I really really enjoy replanting ferns around trails. It's not really art I guess so much as just aesthetics
I like riding over the ferns that Lee replants because I am a talentless hack
