I rode by a bunch of people standing by a trail that looked like they just finished trail maintenance, is that the new bender trail?

I'm new to the NSMB site, what are the best places to go for beginners/intermediate? I live in Kitsilano. I'm not looking for intense downhill, more free riding on a back trail with rocks and roots. A few jumps would be nice.
I would appreciate a response, thanks.
