Does anyone know what trails conditions are like out in Merritt?

Any idea which areas may still be under snow?

Generally, what is signage/maintenance like? (I have the Merritt trail map but it all seems pretty low key so I don't know how up-to-date it. Eg map says signs still to go up for 2004 riding season)

Any tips gratefully received…

BTW: I'm looking for more XC type stuff rather than the DH off Iron Mountain…

Should be good to go. If you have the map you should be able to make your way around.

May see you there!

Only Iron Mt. may have snow at the top.
There is snow at the top of the coq today! 1200m, and Elkhart pass! 1700m, but its supposed to be warm in Merritt over the long weekend so any new snow won't stick around and you don't ride that high there.

I may be going up this summer, so are there any on-line trail maps for Merritt or is there a LBS?, Can someone let me know, which are the more freeride trails or areas and which as more XC. Thanks

Please let me demonstrate the ride around; really it's no trouble.

According to the MMBA map, Iron Mountain is where the shuttle/DH trails are. Theres a forestry road leading from the south (accessed off the Hwy5 at Comstock Road) to some transmitters, with a variety of "black" trails heading off north towards Merritt

I did two days of xc riding in Merritt last year. We bought the bike map at the coffee shop in town, there is no bike shop in Merritt. The first day we rode the Cow Trail Classic trails. The second day we parked at the Tourist Info place, pedalled up the old highway a bit and then you go under the Coquihalla Connector and eventually back into an area where there were quite a few trails. There was a lake and a forest service campsite back there too. Lots of the trails were unsigned, or only signed in one direction so navigating them was a bit tough. Also, when the trail opened up into a big field, it would often disappear so you'd have to keep an eye out for where it picked up again in the woods. Good times though. And yeah, lots of cows.
