Pedalled up to 7th yesterday. No snow on the road, but still about a meter of snow on the trail. We descended the road to upper oil and went down that. Still probably 50 cm at the top in places. Mostly unridable until the very end. Leopard and crikum were mostly clear.

Does anyone know what the status is on that new Lower Expresso trail that was being built last year - anyone know when it is expected to be done? Does it go all the way down to the road?

Anyone know whats up with the gate always being locked?         ....that parking lot is such a tease! Seems to be either full (when it was open) or never even open??

...i know i know... "we pedaled up for years we can do it again now..."  ....but for real, whats the story with it?

Rode up to Expresso, running great. Bayden Powell still challenging in spots. Floppy bunny pretty good too.

Hello,

Why is the gate always closed? Is the parking lot now out of commission or is there a date for it to open?

thanks

-Reply from [email protected]:

Hello Mr. Young.

Thank you for your email.

The Mt. Fromme parking lot gate was only closed during the severe winter weather, as the road is unmaintained during those times. Snow and ice had caused safety concerns for users.

The gate has been open during the day since that time. Currently the gate is closed at 7pm for the evening, as posted at the entry.

Thank you.

HI Wayne,

Thank you very much for your reply; however, you are not correct. I have gone by several times the last couple weeks and it has been closed each time. I was just there this past friday at approx 11am and it was locked again.

If you could kindly confirm with whoever it is that is supposed to open the gate that they are in fact doing so, it would be much appreciated. You don't have to take my word for it either, most of the nsmb.com's 'Fromme trail conditions thread' is filled with questions about the gate and jokes about it being closed seemingly ALL the time.

Thank you very much for your efforts and help with this matter.

all the best sir,

-from mr dnv:

Hello James,

I will indeed confirm with the staff responsible for opening the gate that it is in fact opened daily at the appropriate time.

Thank you

Summary:

Open the F'ing gate please!!

...and yes, i'm obviously somewhat lazy ;) ...but I know im not the only one!

The gate being open when it is supposed to be also helps keep the neighbours in the area happy, as there would be less people parking on Mill St, Coleman, etc.

I don't really care if the gate is open or not, but would like the opening to be consistent, so at least people know. Sometimes I like to park lower down anyways, if I'm coming out of the lower trails like Boundary. It's not such a long ride back to vehicle. Good point about the residents, they would like the lot open if possible.

FYI - still snow at the top of 7th

I rode Upper Oil Can for the first time instead - good times.

Was UOC snow-free throughout the whole trail?

Yep - some snow off to the sides, but the trail itself was perfectly fine
